Your SAT I and II scores probably held you back. Your AP score is really nice and so is your IB one. Your ECs are fine.

I think you can still get into UVA. You can definitely get into Vtech.

Here's the deal, I went through exactly the same thing 2 years ago at UVa. Your SAT and GPA are too low. You could improve your chances at UVa by getting a 4.0 this semester to boost your GPA as much as possible. From what I understood when you are deferred ED your application goes on the bottom of the pile and is read last during RD. An admissions officer told me that they don't flat out reject many applications during ED and defer most of them for RD but most don't make it during RD. Unfortunately, unless you can boost your GPA you don't have a great chance considering that you don't have any superb EC's, you are asian and are from NOVA. UVa is really looking for someone in the top 10% of their class. If you are that would boost your chances considerably. On the plus side you can always go somewhere else for a year and then transfer for a year. Also I'd say you've got a good shot at most of the other schools on your list besides perhaps George Washington. Good luck!

other than semester grades, why worry? your application is already finished. worrying about it wont help you get in. besides, getting deferred means you're on the bubble. its a "maybe" for a reason.

You might want to take the TOEFL as well...I would guess that if you do very well on that it might balance your low verbal SAT and Writing exams somewhat.

I am sure no one here can tell you your "chances." Just do as well as you can on your current course load.

I would sign up for the ACT, get the highest grades possible this semester, and relax because you have a lot of great options if UVA doesn't want you. Also, I recommend retaking the SAT II writing, and also the TOEFL.

Your stats don't look good for UVa but think outside of UVa and all will be well. I doubt many of us could have acheived the scores you earned in Chem and Math and I also admire you for taking a challenging IB program in a second language. You will keep acheiving wherever you land...have you considered Mary Washington, St. Mary's of MD (their honors college), Dickinson? You will get into many of the school on your list. Sometimes smaller colleges can also be beautiful with great outcomes.
best of luck!

im not sure of what to say but i think u should retake ur writing even though u may feel weak in it. with a strong essay u can break 500 which will help more.

ouch, writing is the only problem. retake

yea. get a good writing book(i suggest barrons) and study it like hell. Then get a 4.0 this semsester/quarter/trimester whatever you have and send it in. If you can get your writing to the high 500s like 580 to middle 600s, and you get a 4.0, i think that you will probably get in.

um, the book doesnt help as much as you would think for writing. barrons is awesome, but practice that 20 min essay. i didnt and it hurt.

Here is a list of ACT dates. The only date available now is Feb. date. That's probably too late, but I would look into it!

Really the only thing you can do now is get awesome grades this semester, and take some more tests.

I would recommend sending an extra rec or an extra something in general, to prove that you really want to go there.
