Hello, I was wondering what my chances are after being deferred from early decision. I am going into general bio sciences and plan to minor in Spanish. In your opinion what is my chances of getting into Virginia Tech with the regular decision pool? Thank you!
GPA: 4.1
Class Rank: Top 10
AP Classes throughout high school: 6
SAT: 960 (not , the best I know) , essay was 530
Current grade in AP bio: A
Current grade in AP Spanish: A
extracurricular activities: 8 different clubs / community service
If there is any advice one could give me it would be greatly appreciated , this is my number one school and have worked very hard in order to achieve my goals!
What part of the country are you from?
I am from the United States and also live in Virginia
NOVA? If so, I think you’re on the bubble, especially with the SAT. You’re GPA is well within range though.
Mid 50% from 2015: http://www.admiss.vt.edu/apply/freshman-snapshot/
Wishing you luck!
So would you say my chances are low ?
If I’m you, and I live in northern VA, I’m going to drum up some other options just in case.
If you’re outside of NOVA, I think the chance is a little better.
Did you take the ACT perhaps?
eta: Also, it probably helps that you’re not applying to COE. That being said, I’m not as familiar with the major you plan to pursue. All is not lost - there is still hope!
PS: You might want to check the VT page here on CC to see if you can glean any other clues as to your odds.
I live in Roanoke , Virginia. I did not take the SAT because I knew of people who got in with my SAT score and thought that with my rather well GPA and with my transcripts showing only As at this point it would make up for my SAT scores not being the greatest. Also, all math classes i’ve taken through high school I have received an A and I was wondering if they saw that it would seem that I just wasn’t a great test taker , but I do work hard in classes to keep great grades.
^^I think it’s entirely possible to be accepted in the RD round; I would just have some back-up options too.
Keep your grades up! Do you have a guidance counselor or college consultant who could contact VT to see if there’s anything special that they’re looking for? Anything else that you could provide?
Just today on the VT thread there was a pretty high-stats student who got deferred. I don’t think a deferral from VT is the end of the road. It sounds like there are a number of people out there deferred from ED who get in RD.
Thank you for all of your advice and truthful opinions !
