Let me know what you think...Thanks for everything!!

please help :(

This is an awful lot of bitterness here!

Hi, Hopeful,
I think you might want to add an actual safety to your list. BC is the closest thing you have to a match, but I would'nt call it a sure thing. I am concerned by you SAT II scores, which are not competitive for the ivies. It is certainly possible that your excellent EC's, essays and hs will gain you multiple acceptances, but there is also a chance the fates could frown.

ohio: washington and lee offered me a full scholarship.. and my sister goes to boston college so i figured i had two safety schools. thanks!

I actually have to agree with Unknown (not the personal hatred part...that was...way out of line). Your scores are below the norm for the ivies (maybe Cornell might take you?), and your ECs...even though they seem very strong, they are just "strong" ECs, and "strong" ECs can only get you so far. And you are asian (I know...it sucks that much), we are ORM...Over-represented Minority...so, that sux...but, give it a shot, you might get lucky, but don't bank on any of those schools besides maybe Boston U. Best of luck.

catch: my scores reach the middle 50% of the SAT scores... so i dont understand why they are below the norm

Well, I don't think so. Penn's avg. SAT is a 1409 and their median for their ED pool this year is a 1383...so, yeah...and the 50% that you are talking about includes the developmental admits, the athletes, the minorities, and blah blah blah. And because you seem not to be disadvantaged, and go to the #1 public hs in NJ, then the admissions ppl will def. expect more from you. And the 580...is not pretty. Neither are those six hundreds. And did you hear? Lee Stetson, Penn's admissions director, said that most of their applicant pool for ED this year were in the top 2-3 % of their class...so...yea. But no matter what, good luck.

EDIT: Why did your SATI math fluctuate so much from SATII IC??? It seems abnormal to have that much of a stretch b/t those scores.

catch: i didnt really study for my SAT II's.... thats the reason. and at our school we dont rank so i really dont know where we stand i was guessing about 10%...thanks for your help!

im from nj, u attend millburn i presume?

wow, ok, there is some heated stuff going on here.

from my objective standpoint, i see two things
1) you have solid extra-curriculars. you've clearly put a lot of time and effort into law/political related activities, and i think you should (or maybe you did) emphasize those on your app
2) you have weak standardized test scores. i believe catch-22 stated this above, but within middle 50 percent isn't going to cut it for you, especially because of the type of academic enviroment you come from (what with the top ranked school and all). yes, you have strong scores. but no, they aren't spectacular at all for ivy league schools. (especially the 580 in us history and the other few 600s on the other sat iis) also, the lack APs may harm you, since i'm assuming a top ranked school would offer quite a few of them and you'll be seen as having not taken advantage of your resources.

also, a few caveats: yale highly discourages applicants from submitting additional recommendations, so i really doubt that was the reason you were deferred. (although i'm in the same boat as you - i was deferred EA as well). also, never take an adcom's verbal "you'll get in" to heart; more people are involved in the decision than your regional rep, so try not to get your hopes up just because of that, although i know its tempting to do so.

in terms of your RD schools:
harvard: huge reach
columbia: huge reach (just because of the way ED decisions have been)
gtown: reach
bc: match/safety
upenn: reach/match
brown: your best shot at an ivy
W & L: safety/match

but that's just my opinion. i realize that i'm only seeing a list of numbers/activities, and i know you are more than that. best of luck!

twink: washington and lee offered me a full schloarship which is why im applying... in addition the counselor from yale took the liberty to personally call me as to why i was deferred... if that matters.. but thanks for everything!

and good luck by the way!!

any other suggestions...?

Penn's RD is going to be brutal this year. So I would not say that Penn is a match/reach for you...it's an official reach...because I guess the ED pool was so strong this year that they've already filled up almost 50% of the class already. O.o (And I am one of them...hehe...woohoo!).

WOW...watch taht temper...maybe they ivies saw a little of it or something and said hell no from the beginning. YOu really sound like one of those students who is not committed to anything but merely wish to fill your resume with lots of great looking activities etc... Maybe if you actually cared about helping others through community service or enjoyed and were passionate about your EC's you'd have a shot...but, colleges see right through those glossy resumes. Good luck anyway though...and good luck with a better outlook on life...

I"m impressed by your EC's, especially the sports ones "FUTURES National Women’s Varsity Field Hockey Team, Captain of Tri-State All Star Women’s Varsity Lacrosse Team"

That seems good enough to be recruited, but maybe i'm wrong...

asroma05: unfortunatly you couldnt see the horrible personal post someone left for me ... most likely from my school about how i would never succeed or get into my dream colleges... thats why i got angry because it was so personal that they knew my sister and other incidents... and i do actually care about my community i tutor an autistic child every weekend for four hours, and i volunteer every week at our local soup kitchen.

mistaippa: most likely i will need surgery on my ankle this summer due to an injury last year therefore i would mostlikely not be recruited to a D1 school....
any other suggestions?

I haven't read the rest of the argument here but I'd like to take the opportunity to say that it disturbs me that anyone who got into Harvard types like that...

That has to be my biggest pet peeve. Come on people, is it really that hard to speak coherent and proper English?
