Deferred; Give me realistic Chances

Before I was deferred from MIT, my hopes were inflated by friends and others, so I guess I just want a more realistic view of things

Interview for MIT: Talked for 2 hours, , he started telling me why I should choose MIT over "the other elite universities I would get into"

You have competitive stats for MIT, reasonable ECs and you're a URM. I would have said you had a good shot. I would #1 have your counselor call and see what she can find out about why you didn't get in.

Second, I would not send out any more apps without getting the best advice you can to make sure they are strong. Are you showing passion? Articulating why you belong there?

Then I'd think about whether I was concerned that one of my recs might not be great. If you think that's possible I'd replace it for the other schools. I'd talk to the counselor about what was in the school report to make sure it reflects everything you want it to.

Then keep in touch with MIT, tell them of accomplishments and how much you want to be there.

Good luck!

What about the other schools

Dunno how it works at MIT, does deffered mean deffered to regular decision, deffered to a waiting list, or rejected?

deferred means deferred to RD
