I was deferred from wustl. What are steps that I can take to get in? I think what kept me out was my grades especially sophomore year. I thought my esssays were pretty good. But if any of you wanted to take a read I'd send it. The thing that sucks the most is knowing the first week of break will be finishing up apps.

If you think that the problem was your grades, having straight As first semester senior year would help.

Make sure to have some good solid safeties on your list.

I sent them my grades on the previous thursday. They said that final decisions were not yet made. These were 3 weeks away from semester grades. And while not straight A's they were pretty close, especially for the private school I go to. I do have some solid safeties. Should I explain why I messed up in sophomore year to them. I don't know about other schools, but since I'm already deferred there, would that help at all?

Maybe WUSTL did not feel that, without your semester grades, it had enough information to admit you.
But you really need to get cracking on other apps. Don't think about WUSTL now. Focus on the RD apps. You can come back to WUSTL later with your final grades and then explain your sophomore grades.

I have a friend who does interviewing for WUSTL. Her daughter is a student there as well. She told me that WUSTL really likes "overcoming hardship" themes. Is there anything along those lines that you can add to your essay?

Have your high school counselor call the school in Jan. or Feb. to let them know that it is your FIRST choice.

Send them anything else (without being ridiculous) that might help. Additional awards, sports letters, special recognitions, etc.

Do everything you can, AND fall in love with your safety school, and you'll be fine. Good luck!
