I was deferred from Bowdoin and don’t really know what to do now. I was really confident about my application, and very bummed now. I didn’t send my test scores to Bowdoin, but here are my stats:
In addition to these, I have over 200 hours of community service, have taken 9 AP classes, AP scholar with honor, 4 years varsity 3 season runner.
The other schools I am considering are Middlebury, Williams, Hamilton, Tufts, and Wellesley.
Should I apply somewhere else ED 2? Do I have a chance at any of these schools? What do I do? Where else should I apply? Any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help as I am very unsure of what to do next.
im so sorry about your deferral. i would definitely do ed2 to tufts if i were you— it seems like you have a much better chance there. i hope everything works out for you!! you will still go somewhere amazing, even if it isnt bowdoin
Tufts isn’t test optional. I don’t see it as a better bet. It’s also the least like the other LACs the OP is applying to. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great school. It’s more like an LAC than many research universities, but it’s still not an LAC.
I’d guess Hamilton was your best ED2 option if you have good AP scores or subject test scores you can use. (I imagine you do if you are an AP Scholar with honor.)
That said, I don’t think you should feel pushed into doing ED2 to a college that isn’t your second choice.
I was just posting the schools I could possibly apply ED2 to (most of my reach schools). My second choices are definitely Hamilton or Middlebury- do you think I stand a chance at either one of them? My safety schools are Conn College, Trinity, Holy Cross, Providence, UVM, and Wheaton
Your critical reading and math scores would be in the lowest 25% of the admitted class at Middlebury. That generally means you need an off-setting strength which would justify why they should admit you: Generally that means a hook of some kind or unique life story/perspective.
Your list looks pretty balanced with reaches, matches and safeties, so I don’t think you should feel pressured to pick an ED2. Tufts seems like an outlier only because it is the most different from the others on your list, so you really need to decide if that is the type of school for you before you apply there ED2. Don’t use ED2 out of panic. Middlebury seems like the biggest reach. If you love Hamilton it could make sense to ED2 there.
