I just got a deferral letter in the mail today from UF. It said that my application will be reviewed again later. Originally, I applied for RD1, but now they've moved me to RD2. I want to go to UF so badly! It's been my dream school for as long as I can remember. Do I have a shot? Does anyone know some UF deferral stats from the past? And what can I do to bring up my chances?

-Class Rank: Top 8%
-GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.2 W
-SAT: 1350
-AP Courses: Biology, Language, Literature, American Government, Pre-Calculus/Trig, Calculus AB
-Extra: Mu Alpha Theta, HOSA, FCCLA, Medical Academy, Yearbook, Manateens, Presidential Classroom
-Service Hours: ~70 hours
-Recommendations: AP Biology teacher, AP Literature teacher, Guidance Counselor
-Ethnicity: Asian (IDK if that helps/hurts)

I know I'm probably lacking in the extracurricular and service department. Ahh, I don't know what to do!

I think you have a great shot...I dont even know why you were deffered. What es me off is that this girl at my school who is a total party girl...wrote a **** sob story and got in. She takes NO AP classes and ahs an SAT score of a 1040 and a ty ass gpa....and she got in. Kind of takes the satisfaction of getting accepted away. I'm *ing mad that I worked hard to get into UF and she didn't do *** and got in. You totally deserve her place. I say just keep sending in transcripts...projects...awards...etc...in a portfolio. Someone on CC got accepted after they were deffered.

I have two sisters that go to UF and a father that works there...Although I cannot see why they would not accept you, you have a great shot at being admitted...as long as you work hard and pressure them. I would suggest improving your extracurriculars by joining some more clubs, getting involved in the community, Habitat for Humanity and volunteering at other similar places would also be a good idea...Keep up the good grades as well!

Just keep sending in recent achievements, like lansing said, and prove to them that you have what it takes to be a gator. Hope that helps.

By "pressuring," HtBeatSnr meant to make sure that UF admissions know that your are still very interested in coming to UF. You can do this by sending in extra things for your application or calling them.

One thing I recommend if it isn't too late, try to set up an interview with an admissions representative. That should improve your chances if you are willing to drive to Gainesville for an afternoon.

Another thing, if UF is your dream school, why didn't you apply 'early decision,' your chances would have been a lot higher.

Thanks for the advice! I'm just worried that I'm too late to change anything. The letter I got today said they were going to review my application again in early February. It confused me because "early February" is sort of like.. NOW? D: Is it a mistake, or am I too late?

Oh, and my friend who did RD2 got her decision today as well, even though she was due for March. Rejected. I felt so bad for her..

Another friend of mine did RD1 and got deferred like me. She got the same SAT score as me, has a slightly lower GPA than me, but is a National Merit Scholar.

I didn't think it'd be this tough to get in!

To GatorEng23: My mom didn't like the idea of me being "binded" to UF. She tried to get me to apply to some OOS universities, but somehow that never happened. So I pretty much have no excuse. I regret it. D:

I'm not sure of the details. All I know is that she applied for RD2 (because she missed the RD1 deadline) and got an official rejection letter today! I feel bad, but I'm glad it wasn't me with the rejection letter.

Can you call the school for a decision earlier than the set date?

Hi, I'm back. I've been checking the site EVERY DAY in hopes that it might've changed from "deferred" to "accepted." Alas...

So, I talked to my college/career counselor and got her to send in the fact that I recently won gold in a district competition and will represent the school in state competition. Hopefully, that boosts my positive aspects a bit. And I bumped my service hours to 80. I will send in my latest transcript ASAP.

Hopefully it's not too late considering it's nearly March...

good luck mushu. RD1 was really selective. lol i don't know if being asian will be a deciding factor in admissions. i know asians who were rejected...but good luck!

these some basic stats for middle 50%
* High School GPA of 3.9 - 4.4
* SAT of 1220 - 1390
* ACT of 26 - 31

Well there was a similar situation with a friend of mine, she sent in her app before rd1 deadline but didn't send in supporting material till after the dealine, yet she got her decision in late feburary even though she thought she would be told in rd2....

As to what i've been seeing from those who got accepted from my school, UF really cares about those who are involved in extracurriculars....this same friend im talking about barely had over 1000 in her SAT yet she got in partly because she had over 1000 hours of community service....dont think its far, if we're talking about education.

of course uf values community service, its half of your application almost. If your the nerdy kid who has 100 points over the average sat who thinks community service is for chumps, your gonna be out of luck

Yes, but theres a difference when you're trying to get an education and instead of taking the kid with the 1390 SAT, they take the one with the 1040 SAT because they have 500 more community service hours, sorry but community service hours are the easiest thingd to forge and show nothing when analyzing knowledge.

community service demonstrates how you actually dedicate time and energy for a long period of time. SAT's just shows how well you can test for 4 hours. my school is really strict with what is deemed "community service." i did gift wrapping over christmas break to raise money for a local preschool learning center and my guidance counselor refused accept the hours even though i told her the proceeds would go towards low income student's grants and tuition. i guess it depends on the schools... =/

Well the situation described happenend to two friends of mine
