Hey, i just got deferred, i think?
They said thank you for ur app, we got a large number of apps, and we are reviweing your app, and we will let you know by April first.
I applied early action, and im not sure if this is deferred or what?
(My counselor screwed up my app, and sent his stuff in kinda late, but he called and told them it was his fault. they said i would still get EA. im not sure if that has anything to do ith it.)

Do you think i have a chance to still get admitted? i thought this would be a match/safety, and now im just really confused at whats goin on.

well they wont necessarily say that Roscoe... because "deferred" just means that your decision will be "deferred" or pushed back to a later date because they need additional information or want to look over your application/stats a second time around... so they can slip in sumtin like "we ask to see your senior grades, updated SAT scores if applicable, etc." and that STILL means a deferral unfortunately...

Don't understand your post, bearcat. The message that the OP describes doesn't use the word "deferred," doesn't ask for "additional information," and doesn't say anything about a "second time around," so the things you mention don't seem to be relevant.

In fact, it doesn't say "we will let you know by April 1"; the OP has slightly misquoted it. It appears to be more of a form message that is sent to applicants who don't have a decision yet.

I'm not saying it's not a deferral; I'm just saying it's unclear. If Jan. 1 goes by and the OP still has that message on the status checker, then I'd agree it's a deferral.

well i saw someone else's deferral letter and it said some of the things i stated... which means they are deferred... it could be a different letter for everyone... some could say you are deferred and others can say wut i said...

My son got a letter that said they need his mid-term grades prior to a decision. I called Bing to get more info...to see if its even worth the extra -effort. I asked if this is considered deferred, they told me no...it just means they need more information to make a final decision. They also told me he has a very good chance of getting in if he has a strong mid term grade...which he has been doing (mid to high 90's).

Personally I think they do not want to use the word deferred, but he was (in reality) deferred...however we did not take it as a negative at all. The only negative is a rejection. Good luck.

yea thats exactly wut im saying lol... by saying what they did, they are technically "deferring" the decision but you are not totally out of the application process which is a very good thing... rejection is of course the worse of both evils...

I haven't seen any letters. I'm not talking about any letters. I am saying that the the website message that Daliman and paul1212 are referring to isn't necessarily a deferral.

then again after i read the online statement from binghamton... it seems like they didnt even reach a decision yet lol... PAUL- did u receive an official letter from binghamton in the mail yet???

No i never got any letter in the mail, no email, nothing like that.
Ill give you the exact original message, which has not changed since it was first posted:

"Your application to Binghamton University is complete. This year we received an extraordinary number of applications and the Admissions Committee needs additional time to review each application thoroughly. The Committee will have completed its review by April 1 and all decisions will be available here by that date. Thank you for your patience."

Thats all it says, and I have not gotten any notice of additional information, or anything like that (which is why im so confused).

o im really sorry.. that is really NOT a deferral... the way u explained it in the first post made it sound like it was one... it sounds like the board of admissions directors didnt even make a decision yet maybe because u lost out on early action... perhaps that guidance counselor "faux pas" or mess up is y u could have possibly lost out... ur BEST bet is to call the admissions office at binghamton to find out for sure if that is the case and explain the thing about ur guidance counselor...

well i actually did that already kinda... the other day i called them to see exactly what it was, and they said that it isnt really a deferral, they just genuinely need more time. i also asked about the whole counselor screw up thing and they said that i was still in the EA pool. Im still a little confused on all of this i guess ill just have to wait it out.

then u could be on the borderline and they just need more time to decide... could i ask for your stats if you wouldnt mind... if you are indeed borderline however, you will most likely get your decision in the next month or so, not around march/april... they might also ask to see your midyear grades...

Hey Marty-kins I think you can get into any college you want to if you just believe!!!! If you go to UNC I'll be right there behind you...in more ways than one! ;) ;) Done any "spooning" lately?
