So, I was recently deferred from Princeton. This was a huge disappointment and (honestly) a bit of a surprise.

I'm honestly lost on what to do at this point. I'd really like to get in, but have no idea why I was deferred.

Would it be appropriate to call them on Monday and ask why I was deferred? What could I do to increase my chances?

Also, I would definitely know who to call, since I had a 1.5 hour interview with a member of the admissions staff.

You can ask what additional information they would like from you in order to improve your application for when it is read again in the next round.

You also need to either get some other applications out before their deadlines, or start planning for what you will do in the fall if you have no college to go to. If you are dead serious about Princeton, it might make sense for you to investigate gap year options, and reapply next fall.

Alright, so I’ll be sure to ask them that. Is that the sort of information they might have included in a paper letter, since I haven’t received that yet (and won’t for several weeks)?

Of course I am also applying to other universities (8) under the assumption that I’ll probably, despite my best efforts, be rejected by Princeton.
