Deferred, now what?

Here are my stats, maybe someone can help me out on what to do to reverse this.
SAT: 670 M 710 V
Legacy (deceased father)
SAT II(awful i know): 690 math2c 630 chem 630 writing
Rank: 96/748
EC's: Hip Hop (national champion), and a bunch of random things(enough to fill that EC page on the common app)
Work history: Citigroup (current) Intern, 2 other technology companies over the past summers.
Current Schedule: AB calc AP, IB Phys SL, government, english 4, business internship
My rank will stay the same due to the fact I only have 4 classes this year because I am doing business internship. I had an alum right a letter of rec as well. I really want to goto this school. Retaking SAT's is doable, but I am an awful test taker. Do they see my 1st semester grades of senior year? Thx all for advice.

How does your letter start?

I'm deferred too

SAT: 740 M 690 V
SAT II: 800math2c 720chem 730 writing
ECs I won't list

I think without legacy I wouldve had an easy rejection. Here i'll post the letter:

Cornell has finished a careful review of our early decision applications, and the selection committee has decided to postpone a final decision on your application until the regular review process in the spring. I know that this is disappointing news, but please rest assured that your application will be read again thoughtfully and thoroughly during the regular decision period.

Hmm you seem very similar to my stats, including the legacy part. Main diff tho were my sat 2's were a bit higher, dunno if that helps any but hope you get in rd!

Hey guys -
Deferred from human ecology with a 1340 and i didn't submit my math SAT II (which was really dumb, but i thought it was just too low - it was in the low 6's), but 800 writing SAT II
Otherwise 3.82 uw GPA, 5 ap's, science research, great recs and really good essays...
I'm really going to try and pursue this one by re-taking the SAT II in january and sending in as much extra stuff as i can plus good grades this year...

best of luck to all the other deferrals also

Anyone know deferral stats?

Should I send an e-mail to the admission rep of TX? Or just wait a bit?

i am going to send them essays twice a month. until i annoy them. nah not really, quite possibly i may have just given up on my dream of cornell. moving on to a new school.

Hey guys, I' m sorry about his, college admissions suck in general.

Just wanted to say you guys are all awesome, and that defferal is NOT rejection. Sometimes you may not "stand out" enough; they are very picky with EDS. You all have very good chances for acceptance, who knows, a big award or honor could tip the scales-that's what made me stand out from the crowd; otherwise I doubt I'm much better:

SAT: 1400 (both times the EXACT breakdown)
ACT: 32 (with 36 on reading sec.)
SAT II: 800 world, 710 bio, 730 writing, 670 math II
GPA: over a 4 (my school used a bizarro 14 pt system-over 14 meant over a 4.0)
Rank: 8/542

Da scale tipper: Intel Semifinalist

You guys are still in the race, don't give up now-no senioritis slacking!!!

ag_cutie//

were u first deferred and then accepted?

No I applied RD, but I know many accepted deferrals.

Oh... do you know by any chance the approximate acceptance rate for those who are deferred?

Hey guys. I just want to say do not give up, and thanks to all that were accepted for your support. I'm going to do all I can to get into this school and meet the rest of you there in August. Good luck to all of you:)!

i don't know about deferred, but they only accepted 4 people off the waitlist last year according to my prof.

ugh thats depressing

alright .......... i got deferred too (CALS bioengineering).....i had a 3.5 uw.....if i get like 4 a's 2 b's or 5 a's and 1 b..............am i in basically(like do they want to just see some flaw in the application(my grades) improved)?? Or is it kinda like ...........im not in cornell and move on????? I mean i dont wanna write letters....grobbling to be let in, just wanna do what i can(like retook math 2c..should be raised from 700 to 750........retaking sat(best combined should be 1500 instead of 1420) and get good grades.)

How much of an impact can i make to sway the decision or do they BARELY take any deferred applicants?

kinda rambled...but whatev

It depends. I guess they evaluate you in the context of your own scores, etc. though the gpa is rather low especially for an engineering field (doens't matter that you applied to CALS, BE is still engineering) and math is low for engineering too (bottom 25% is at 710)

hey neutral.....you're doing bee i noticed. I am applying for that(yeah deferred), but honestly how much does rasing my sat1 math score from 710 to 750+ and math 2c to 750+ make? I know the program is highly selective, but i really like it......can u guess how much of deferred bee students they take (like percentage-wise)?

The amount of deffered students accepted varies year to year. It won't be held against you though in the regular decision process. At any rate, best of luck to all of you in RD.

I'm not sure about how many they take, but my math SATI was 770 and SATIIC was 800. So I guess if you have comparable you should be able to stand a decent chance (?)
