Ok, I’m an international student from Romania, with decent stats for an intl. needing lots of FA. When I was firstly deferred, from Bates, it was like the end of the world - basically because many people on CC were almost guaranteeing admission and even chiding me for applying to such a “low-ranked” school. I decided to aim higher, to Middlebury, and missed. I don’t feel that bad, though, because I got admitted somewhere else (IUB, rolling admissions). Anyway, is something going wrong with my apps or what? Is there anyone out there in the same situation?

I've been deferred from 3 schools so far!!! I've been wondering the same thing...what's wrong with my applications? I took my SATs again in Jan. which boosted my scores to 1510 and wrote nice letters to each school. Hopefully at least one of the 3 schools will want me in RD. I did get into two schools with rolling admissions, so I know I have some good choices. I keep wondering why this is happening. Good luck bogororo.

How did you get deffered three times? I thought there are only EDI and EDII. Just curious, I don't mean to be malitious.

he could have also applied to one or more EA school,s thus making it possible for 3 deferrals

whoops, didn't think about that

Yep! 1 ED school, 1 EA school, and 1 ID school. Is that a CC record? Lucky me!

Perhaps this is the key. Although my family is not in this situation, I have learned on CC that the combination of being an international applicant and needing significant financial aid can greatly diminish one's options. Deferrals are, however, not rejections, so we'll hope for better news for you in the RD round.

I hope this to be the key! But sometimes I get freaked out about something being wrong with my application. Middlebury stated it was need-blind for internationals as well, although I don't believe this fairy-tale anymore. Anyway, I wish I was an American in this game (me and half the world, probably).

You can believe it if they say it. People on the chances board don't generally have any real insight to your chances. They can just tell if you are in the ballpark. You are just applying to small schools with lots of competition.

Good luck to ya at any rate!
