Deferred Ones

As I've seen, there have been a lot of people that have been deferred, myself included, and I'm just wondering what the chances are that we can be admitted in the regular decision pool? Also, are you doing anything to help your chances?

I got deferred too, I wanna cry. Actually I am crying. Any advice would be helpful.

I am the so-called deferred one :frowning:
My world just crash when they stated that I was deferred…
“Also, are you doing anything to help your chances?” You bet I am. I am going to do a lot of extra curricular activities that they won’t be able to turn me down!!
Ofc, my GPA will raise even more this year because I am in Honor Roll right now.

Are you sending NU a letter with all the clubs you’re joining?

wont you look stupid if you just join a bunch of random clubs that aren’t even relevant to your interests. ill probs take the ACT cause ive never taken it and im sure my gpa will go up because my grades are better this year and im taking 4 APs. struggs. I only got an 1810 on my SAT though so the fact that they deferred me and didn’t reject me must mean they saw SOMETHING, right? (essay and ECs im assuming)

I’m deferred too. NU isn’t my top choice but I’m still bummed. I think it’s because I declared business on my app  But it’s okay guys they sounded more optimistic in the wording of their letter than a lot of other schools have about deferrals! And the fact that we applied EA will give us a slight one-up over the ED people.

To improve my chances, I’m having my english teacher write me a L o R right now that I’m planing on sending to Northwestern, so I’ll probably just send it to Northeastern too. Idk of anything else though. Other ideas? I’m kind of surprised about the amount of deferrals tbh.

I just emailed admissions with some questions regarding the deferral FAQs, but I would love to improve my chances somehow. Unfortunately, I’ve taken both standardized tests twice and I really don’t think I would improve my scores much. I’m only taking 2 APs this year but I have tough teachers so they’re actually bringing my GPA down. Even if I wanted to join a bunch of random clubs, I couldn’t because our teachers our currently holding a strike that prevents clubs from taking place. And I literally have no time for new ECs, as I work 6-7 days a week.

I definitely cried for a good 15 minutes, I really thought I had a chance and now I have no clue what will happen.

Yeah, i’ll put it in the letter, but I am trying to join clubs or extra curricular activities that seem helpful. Like maybe Key Club or start a fundraiser. It will probably look stupid if I join a bunch of random clubs, but the thing is that I applied undecided hoping to get accepted.
Tomorrow, I am going to ask my guidance what I can do to improve my chances.
Btw, jackechan what is the L o R?
shamtherock, would you mind sharing what they say when they reply? It would really help most of us here.

Don’t be upset because of being deferred! Just think: We are still in the running, while others don’t have another chance! Congratulate yourself that you have come this far! Also, don’t get obsessed with just ONE school because it will set you up for disappointment.

As Bob Marley and Bobby McFerrin once said, “Don’t worry, be happy”! :)

You sir, made my day.
It is kind of a miracle of me making it this far!
Couple of questions.
How many students will Northeastern admit? (Maximum Capacity)
Any ideas on how to increase my chance?

I’m actually a girl, but I’m glad I made your day! :)

Oh. I am truly sorry!
I’m guessing you were deferred as well?

Little brother just got deferred as well. And just a pointer to all of you…joining clubs, doing fundraisers, going crazy doing EC’s all of the sudden will not be helping your chances whatsoever. Is that going to look sincere? Of course not, it looks like you’re doing it to get accepted into a school.
Just my advice: keep doing what you’re doing and make sure your grades are looking golden for the mid-year report. Also, I have heard of people sending an additional essay to their regional admissions officer explaining why the school is a perfect fit, blah blah blah. Best of luck to all of you!

@TheyCallMeLulu Letter of Recommendation

Yup! But I’m not trippin because I have 3 other acceptances and 12 more decisions to roll in! :)

The FAQ doc. they sent us said last year 3000 deferred students were admitted to regular admission or the nu.in program

I am going to talk to my counselor about submitting an additional personal statement. I am not going to give up on hope. I am going to take the ACT again. I’m also going to consider submitting a journalism portfolio, since I’m applying to CAMD.

If anyone needs to talk, I’m here :)

how long after will they accept act and sat scores?

Im also wondering that. Would I be able to take the January SAT or the February ACT and send it? I got deferred and they said the final decision would be received in April. I assume that would give me time to do so.

I heard that this year they only looked at standardized test scores. If you got deferred and had less than a 2100 SAT or a 31 ACT, that’s probably why. I know I got accepted with a 2180 SAT but a ~3.1 GPA and no other qualifications. I know that many of the deferred people are much more qualified than me. If you can, I guess it’d be the most helpful just to raise your test scores and see if NEU will accept them.
