Deferred Ones

Ya. Don’t give up hope, everyone! we just need to do whatever to raise our chance!

I’m going to email them and ask when they need test scores by, when I get a reply I’ll post it here!

Guys, don’t make fun of me please, but I got less than 1750 and i got deferred.

I was deferred as well :frowning: NU is my first choice

Do you think I have a chance for maybe the Nu-in program? My GPA is a 3.71, three APS and three more my senior year (including calc and physics). I do a lot with German at my school, as well and played hockey for three years. I applied to engineering as a girl.
The bad part are my scores (630m, 600r, 580w) – i think this is why i got deferred because they based EA applicants on scores…

I’m in the same boat, I only had an 1840… Not a big deal at all.

I had a 2130 and got deferred with a 4.1 weighted GPA (12 AP’s and IB program). I don’t know what else I can do?

I was deferred with a 2140 and a 5.87 weighted GPA and I honestly have no idea why. I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I really don’t know what else I could have done to get accepted.

To be honest, I was counting on an EA acceptance from NU. My SAT was a 2160 (CR 760, Math 600, WR 800), my GPA is hovering around a 93 (we don’t use a 4-point scale) and my ECs are really good. My common app essay was really strong, and they didn’t ask for any supplements that I could have messed up, so to be honest I just don’t know what happened? Like I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I am surprised, I think I’m pretty well qualified and NU should have been a good fit.

I had an 1810 SAT (but 670 W) and ~3.1 gpa, but excellent ECs and a perfect essay. I’m not totally shocked I was deferred, considering my numbers, but meh. I think they’re just scared because they’ve over-accepted in the past so I think they are deferring a LOT of people in the EA round to make sure they don’t do it again. Hopefully there aren’t a lot of people that apply RD!

That happened to a couple of people at my school too. They had like 4.4 GPA’s and really high test scores but got deferred. The only thing I can think of (and I know this will sound really annoying) is that you guys are over qualified. They might think that because you have such high GPAs and scores, that you’re most likely applying early to an ivy or top tier school and you will likely get in, so they’re waiting to see if you withdraw your application so that they don’t waste an acceptance.

I hope that’s the case because NEU is the only place I want to go

Oh man. This is really sad… My guidance counselor’s assistant told me I have no chance of getting in… I’m just gonna send in a new essay hopefully it at least boost my chance by a little. :(

In Oct I got 1980 and Northeastern defers me (maybe this score is a little low). However, this time in Dec I get 2130. So I hope that this score will improve the chance I can be admitted :)

Northeastern is my first choice, and I made it pretty clear to them (lot’s of demonstrated interest), but I only have a 3.4GPA and a 29ACT. Fantastic ECs and essay, but I’m not sure they can get past the GPA. Would sending them an additional essay saying why Northeastern is perfect for me actually help? Or would it just look desperate…

^^Northeastern doesn’t really take demonstrated interest into account.

^^^^Well, that sucks

^^^Sorry, it is considered, however it is not that heavily weighted in terms of importance.

It isn’t that heavily weighted, but if they’re looking at your profile and someone else’s practically identical to yours, and in your profile, there is an email saying that you will attend if accepted, they would most likely choose to admit you over the other person. So, it’s still worth sending an email to your admissions counselor saying that it’s your first choice and if admitted you will definitely attend.

does anyone know the email address for the dean of admissions? i cant find it anywhere on their website and would like to send them an email since i have been deferred. thanks!!

^^You should be emailing your regional admissions counselor:

They will not explain why you were deferred if that is what you intend to ask.
