Deferred payment VS regular

So on EBill it gives the choice of paying a semester's fees in 5 installments, or all at once...the deferred payment (5 installments) adds on an additional $40 fee.

BUT.

When I compared the two semester total numbers (deferred times five VS. regular minimum amount + four months' housing), the deferred plan seemed came up about a thousand dollars short compared to the regular total semester fee.

Is this just a mistake they made when adding numbers? Or is this on purpose? Or are my calculations just off? Is anyone else getting this (deferred payment is less expensive than paying it all off at once)?

Haha. The university is not dumb! You can't beat the system!

Do you mean that you can pay the August 15th bill in payments, not all at once?

If so, how do you sign up to do that?

Ummm...it's called "deferred payment," and it should come up as an option underneath the "minimum amount due" option when you've clicked on the "pay" icon in EBill.

All you do is delete the figure entered in the "minimum amount due" box, and leave the figure in "deferred payment." Then EBill will just take the installment money, and automatically sign you up for the deferred payment system. But then you have to remember to pay on the 15th of each month!

One last question, How do I sign up so that I pay by sending in a check, instead of automatically online?

Did you even bother reading the website first...? C'mon, Cal student!

lol
call me lazy

Lazy!!!!!!

lemme see if i get this... is it considered "deferred payment" if i chose to pay the minimum amount due and pay the installments for housing every month on the 15th? or is deferred payment the deferring of the registration fees?

The deferred payment is the deferring of the registration fees and is considered deferred payment by choosing to pay the minimum amount indicated on the deferred payment line. Hope this clears up the deferred payment questions!
