Deferred Questions // chance me?

I was deferred EA but right away went down to visit, met with my admissions counselor, and plan to next week send him an email. I have sent my mid year grades, which are about the same as they have been the past four years.

  • white female from Midwest
  • 35 ACT
  • 91UW, 94.5W
  • team captain of two sports
    -stuco
  • french club, National french exam medalist, multiple sport related certifications, state division two/ division one vocal soloist, multiple GPA related honors
  • 3 APs (although my school has limited AP options)
  • all honors
  • service all four years
  • summer job
  • 2 rec letters, can’t read but believe are strong
  • why Tulane done

I have some special family circumstances which I did not include in my essay, but was told I should include them in an email. Chance me? Also, when do deferred students find out our updated decision? Is it April 1 exactly or a rolling deadline?

If Tulane is your first choice or you are really interested make sure they know. You have great stats and would be a great add to the class. You have the stats but your essays and interest have to close the deal. Good luck !

I’m betting that they let you in during RD. They probably just thought an applicant with a 35 ACT would get ED somewhere else.

Great chance. Definitely let them know! Good luck!

I was deferred EA and Tulane was my top choice and I was extremely disappointed. I emailed my admissions counselor many times and met with my her more than 3 times when she came to my town by the time I went down to campus for the open house in October she knew my name. I showed an insane amount of interest all throughout junior and senior year and was very upset and shocked that I was deferred and now I am very nervous I am not going to get in RD. I contemplated ED ll and the only thing stopping me was money, which is why I didn’t ED l. After I was deferred, I, as well as my father and guidance counselor, spoke directly on the phone with my admissions counselor saying how Tulane is still my first choice but I cannot ED ll because of money. I also sent a very long, detailed email to Jeff Schiffman, where he replied saying that he saved my email to my file to show the committee my continued interest. Here are some of my stats:
-white male from northeast
-1350 SAT
-94 Weighted
-5 AP’s and 7 Honors
-On board for 4 clubs, 1 of which I am president and 2 are honors societies, as well as many other extracurriculars inside and out of school (I worked at a decamp for children with cancer this past summer, which I wrote about for the work experience essay)
-I wrote an extremely detailed why Tulane essay and I’ve never worked harder on an essay
-3 letters of rec of which I was very close with all the teachers that wrote one
-I had tons of community service which I know Tulane loves.

As you can see I was right on par grade wise and I made it extremely clear that Tulane was not a safety and I truly wanted to go. What do you think my chances are of me getting in RD and is there anything else I can do to increase my chances of getting accepted? I was deferred in December and I’ve been worrying about it ever since I really do not want to get rejected. Thanks.

@glaze0430 I can appreciate everything you wrote and I sincerely hope you are accepted RD. With as competitive as Tulane’s admissions process is these days, I don’t think anyone should be “shocked” if and when they are deferred.
