My application was deferred to Regular Decision and I was just wondering if anybody could give me their best guess for my chances in April.

I'm from Virginia, my weighted GPA is a 3.67 (my school doesn't use unweighted).
Class rank is 142/601
SAT is a 1310/1940.
EC's: 3 years of track (All Area, All District, All Region); lots of work experience--15-20 hours/week for 3 years. Not too much community service, but that's due to working. National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.

8 AP's (total), also.

My GPA for my senior year is a 4.2, so my overall GPA and my class rank should both improve.

Any feedback would be great! JMU is my top choice and I'm really curious as to whether or not there's anything I can do to make my application look more appealing to admissions.

Sorry you have to go through anxiety for a couple of more months but it sure sounds like you’ll get in during RD. My daughter got in EA last week but 3 years ago my son was deferred at EA, so I know what you’re going through. But your stats certainly do seem comfortably within JMU’s requirements. In fact, I’m a little surprised you were not accepted EA. You should know that JMU does pay careful attention to your GPA in the core subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language). If you’ve had a bad grade or two or three in those core subjects, it can hurt you, especially in the EA round. But I don’t think you need to worry about that, given your overall stats. I think you’ll be fine. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Yes, core classes and rigor seem to be the most important component. My son got in EA with lower stats than yours, but comes from a competitive high school w/rigorous curriculum and high grade scale. Also OOS. Your stats, etc. are excellent. I can’t imagine you wouldnt’t get in. I know how difficult waiting can be. Good luck!

I am really surprised that you didn’t get in EA. Admissions is so competitive for in-state applicants, especially those from NOVA. My older daughter is a current junior at JMU and loves it! My second daughter was just deferred from JMU. However, her stats are much less impressive than yours: 3.6 gpa, 1200/1840 SAT. We are out-of-state.

I am very sure you will get in during regular admissions, although I understand that it must be extremely stressful for you to to have to wait so long for a decision. Best of luck to you!

Bluehen89, I’ve seen and been following your posts. So sorry you and your D have to wait for RD to hear. The anticipation is terrible. Admissions are crazy this year. My son got into JMU, but was wait listed at Mason, so the OOS factor didn’t apply there. It’s unpredictable. Good luck to your daughter. I think this process might be tougher on us though!
