Deferred REA: Chances RD?

Hi, I was deferred from BC and it’s my number one. I emailed the admissions counselor to see if there is anything I can add to my application and she basically told me I was deferred for my test scores. Could anyone give me my chances because I didn’t retake the tests this winter.

GPA:4.21
SAT: CR: 680, M:640, W:660 (1980)
ACT: 29 (reading: 31, math: 30, writing: 29, science: 26)
EC: lots: varsity golf (senior captain) jv lacrosse (captain) national charity league (treasurer 50+ hours of service a year), ski club (senior leader), employee at a yoga studio (receptionist),Vanderbilt Summer Academy (3 weeks in the summer), babysitting/tutoring (5 hours a week)
Sophomore Year: (most rigorous course load school offers)
Junior Year: 2 AP’s (Calc AB, APUSH)
Senior Year: 2 AP’s (Calc BC, AP Gov)
Just got my first semester grades back and ended up with a 4.1
Teacher Recs: good (i think: my teachers loved me)
Essay: good (I was happy with it, I wrote about my community service site where I work with students with special needs)

**Already three kids from my school have gotten into Boston College REA, what are the chances they will admit more?

Went through this last year with my daughter. She has pretty much similar test scores along with a GPA of 4.3, resume was very impressive, along with attending an extremely competitive all girls high school. Was wait-listed but never accepted.

@katiea123 what exactly did you say in your email and what was their response?

what were your AP scores, Katie? (A 5 on Calc should mitigate your SAT/ACT Math score.)

To increase your chances of RD, search the BC forum for posts by scottj, a parent, who has sage advice for writing a persuasive, ‘Why BC’ essay. (Make sure that you tell them what you bring to the table, i.e., what you have to offer as a student, a dormie, a member of the BC community.)

Good luck.

In addition, if still possible, see if you can forge a connection to the BC jesuit identity via community service experience. This would convey to admissions why you are a clear fit and why if offered admission, you would accept. Good luck!

i also got deferred:(…i was woderig what my chances of getting in are. should i email BC and ask why i got deferred? thanks:)

My son was also deferred. When he called his admissions counselor to ask if there was anything he could do to to help his application he was told to keep up his grades through the midterm (he currently has a 4.3 weighted GPA). Good news or bad? Any thoughts?
