My DS was waitlisted 2 years ago-he sent a letter why he really wanted to go there-got accepted 2 weeks later!

I’m to the point where I want them to reject me and end the waiting. It would be great if I got in (and would definitely make the whole, ‘have to know by May 1’ business easier), but as I’ve spent the past fourish months convincing myself that I’m not going to Princeton, getting waitlisted would just be annoying.

itdoesdeath, I couldn’t agree more. At this point, being waitlisted would just be outright frustrating. I just need to know now, whatever the decision is. At least its only 4 more days. I’m sure we’ll all love wherever we go anyway.

beajalles, I definitely agree with that. I think that I’d be really happy at any of the schools where I’ve been accepted to date.

On a different note, is it sad that I’ve had the line, “may the odds be ever in your favor” in my head all weekend? whatever. may the odds be ever in everyone’s favor.

^I’ve heard that all week too…

This was too funny!

Do you think financial aid packages are created only for accepted students? I have been accepted into a couple of schools and most of the one that have accepted me have asked for additional information (I have a unique financial situation). Even though I will find out in a couple of days, do you think the lack of Princeton’s financial aid office contacting me for information is a negative sign?

I think that’s what the week before admissions decisions is for

Oh geez. I’m praying for financial aid questions then. Thanks lolToasty!

Btw- weird name…

Omg! I am so glad I found this page, I have been in serious mourning since getting defferred. I got a 2360 on my SATs and a 35 on my ACTs but I guess I’m just not good enough :’(. Does anyone else still feel this pain? I really hope I get into one of my back up schools (Duke, Stanford, Yale) but they will never feel the gap that is left from Princeton if I dont get in </3. How is everyone else feeling?

Yale != a backup school.
My Yale love’s coming out… I can’t help it.

@ classicgirll- I second thee!

If Yale was my back-up, life would be cool. And that’s an understatement XD haha

Rejected but I got into my #1 school Penn! So little mourning here :))))

Rejected. But whatever. I got into lots of other great schools (Dartmouth, Brown, Williams, NYU-Abu Dhabi)…

Rejected too. Don’t really mind! I got into Duke and wait listed at Harvard, Penn, and Brown. So even more waiting!

rejected!!! but strangely, while this would’ve shattered me in december, i’m almost relieved!!

hahahha forget princeton-i got an uber fantastic scholarship to johns hopkins…and not looking back!! ohh ahha i was also waitlisted to cornell feel like i should change the name of the group to “deferred/rejected? the official celebration page!”

congrats and good luck to everyone with all their college endeavors <3

Grounds for appeal
Last week, I was rejected from every Ivy League School, except for Columbia, where I was waitlisted. These are my stats.

36 ACT
4.4 GPA (4.0 unweighted)
2 Year Swimming Captain, 4 Year Varsity
President of a BuildOn Club, 2 years
2x All State Swimming
National Merit Finalist
US Presidential Scholar Candidate
Multiple other Minor Awards
250 Hrs Community Service
National AP Scholar
12 AP Classes
Worked tutoring ACT and SAT Classes
Both teachers I had do my recommendations are very close to me, as well as my counselor.
Contacted Coaches to walk on to swimming programs
And my application essays were reviewed by friends at Harvard and Yale, and they were decent at least.

As can be seen, I expected to be admitted to at least one school, however, I was not, and I am very disappointed. I did receive another minor honor this week, and though it itself may not be the best grounds for appeal, I believe my current situation warrants a second look. Anyone have any advice? I could really use some help.

In addition, I am an Indian Male.

@backstroker, I am sorry about how things turned out. You seem really qualified. How were your teacher recs?
You should have been admitted to at least a few Ivies. You can apply to transfer, of course, but there is no formal appeals process.

There are no appeals, but I thought dropping you this note might make you feel better. As an alum of one of the schools that rejected you and waitlisted my daughter, I feel your pain. Fortunately, she did get into one of her top 5, but my alma mater was her first choice, and the fact that she was waitlisted continues to eat at her (and enrage me).

It seems that these schools DO NOT want well-rounded students (and it sounds like you are well-rounded). In an Ivy league college admissions session we attended, the officer said “If your guidance counselors are telling you all that we want well-rounded students, they are steering you in the wrong direction. We want to put together a well-rounded class made up of a group of students with individual passions.” Personally, I think that’s not only b.s. but a big mistake. What’s wrong with having (at least some) very bright kids with diverse interests - why would a school want a class full of kids who are so narrow at such an early age? It certainly was not that way when I was admitted (many years ago, unfortunately).

I hope you were accepted somewhere you can feel good about and move on. The sooner you commit and embrace your new school the better. You will never understand why they did what they did. The joke among my fellow alums is that the admissions committees at these schools throw the applications up in the air, and those that land face up on the table right in front of them are admits. Whoever is close is a waitlist, and if you happen to land far away or face down, you’re simply out of luck.

You will succeed wherever you go because you obviously are driven and bright. I know many people more successful than I who attended no-name schools. Best of luck to you.
