I got deferred from Michigan this morning, so that pretty much means I'm out of the game right-o?

Also, how was I deferred if I didn't apply for ED? Isn't it either admit, reject, waitlist after October 31?

How indeed. Are you sure it was a deferral and not a rejection? I'm not familiar with Michigan's admissions process, but a deferral usually means a college will re-evaluate your application. Since it's already March, I don't see how that would make any sense.

i friend of mine told she was accepted by michigan, she was notified by e-mail, they mentioned they would send a more personilzed aceptance letter later on. this was about a week ago.

^^^
yeah, but Beejay was deferred not admitted. So your post has no relevance.
I swear.

Typing out from the letter dated February 21st 2008 (I received it today, I live overseas).

Dear { }

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of LSA for 2008. After an individualized and comprehensive evaluation, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date. Your application will be re-evaluated on a regular basis, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials and academic achievements contribute to the composition and quality of this year's freshman applicant pool.

Then 2 paragraphs copy-pasted off of their deferral webpage.

At this stage in the game, getting deferred is not good. U of M is going to run out of slots in its freshman class soon, and if you haven't been reevaluated and admitted by then, you're getting waitlisted or rejected.

Living in-state, this has happened to kids at my school before. Don't abandon all hope, but realistically start looking at your other colleges seriously.

I never had a lot of hope to begin with. I knew living overseas was going to significantly reduce my chances at schools where being in-state made a difference. Just a bummer.

I've heard of people being deferred from a while ago and then being admitted later on (talking about Michigan here.) You're pretty much out of the game if you've been WAITLISTED rather then deferred.

No, with Michigan's new Early Response program, getting deferred until March/April is a possibility. However, take ducktape's advice, and start moving on. Hopefully you sent in a letter or something expressing your interest (if you are interested), because getting deferred from U of M makes it very hard to be accepted eventually, since it is a state school, and not a private school where deferred students are more common.

Not that this will help but my advice is if you really want to go there, and have ANYTHING great that you've done/achieved/etc. since your original application, it can't hurt to send that along now perhaps with a note re-expressing your desire to be a Big Blue. And emphasizing whatever it is about you that you think sets you apart or makes you a good candidate. And maybe even an additional letter of rec or something.

It might not help but it can't hurt ... I don't think.

Show some more love.

i got deferred from u of m in december and i still haven't heard anything. so i feel your pain. its so irritating to look on wolverine access and see that i still dont have a decision. but i guess what i want to say is good luck on getting in. i really hope everything works out for you :)
