If you are deferred to regular admission, you are automatically released from your early decision requirement to attend, correct? I am convinced that you are, but my DD wanted me to confirm this with you folks. It is for Boston University, where we had to sign a binding Boston University ED commitment.

The contract is voided as you were deferred, and are no longer considered an “Early Decision” candidate.

shoot4moon, Younger son was deferred from VT for ED in 2009-the info on the website and the deferral letter made it clear he was released to go elsewhere if he wanted to. I would imagine it would be similar at any school but in doubt check BU’s website or contact admissions directly.Good luck to your daughter!

Hmm…I looked: BU’s web site is actually maddeningly vague about this.

But, yeah, how on earth could it be otherwise?

Deferred means you did not get in as an ED candidate. There is no requirement to attend if admitted RD later on.

This. It is this way for all ED schools.
