I was deferred from the big H, and I'm trying to pump up my apps.

I got 2330 SAT I (800 critical reading 750 math, 780 writing)

but my SAT IIs sucked

650 Spanish
680 Chemistry
800 Math Level 2

I decided that I should take SAT IIs again in January, but I was trying to decide which to take. Should I retake Spanish, take Literature, or do both? What would everyone suggest?

Also, what sort of stuff should be sent to Harvard to get an acceptance letter come RD time? (Resumes, articles, etc.)

I would say that it is NOT your test scores. If you haven't already SEEN an admissions officer and visited the school you should. The only way an ADCOM can see you any different than the other highly qualified applicants and read your essays through your eyes is to KNOW you. I don't see your location on your profile.. but if it's not too tough.. go see one of the people who will be making the decision and make an impression on him/her. GL

thanks for the advice. i did visit harvard, but i didn't have enough time to schedule an interview there. also, there was no place to sign in or anything, so im pretty sure that no one on the adcom would know that I was there.

Don't be an idiot, and don't retake your tests.

If there are any significant changes to your application (things you would have included the first time around but hadn't happened yet), write a little note updating them.

i don't think it can hurt you to retake one or two if you want to, and if you scored 800 on critical reading, then you'll have no prob with Literature; it's not a hard one at all.

I would disagree with the above posters and say find at least 2 SAT IIs where you can break 700, preferrably 750. Most high end schools now place more weight on the SAT IIs than on the SAT. That said, I hope you have all of your backup apps in because Harvard won't take many from the deferred pile.
