I was deferred in the ER session and I applied to LSA. According to the other threads, I got the good deferral letter. Right now, i have 3 extra recommendation letters(which, i think, are not too much helpful) and a personal appeal which explains why I didn't get straight As in the 7th semester (cuz i took many AP and honors). This is my 7th semester grades

AP Calculus: A
AP Chem: A
AP Psychology: B+
AP Bio:B-
Modern literature:C+ (this one hurts)
Major British Writers: B+
Modern world history: B+
Seminar: A

I know my grades are not impressive at all and i used to get straight As. After this semester my accumulated GPA went from 3.85 to 3.78 (unweighted).
I dont know if I should send in them. Because I heard about his rumor says that the admission office doesnt really give a ***** about how rigorous my courses are, and GPA is what they really care about. That being said, I m here trying hard and working hard whereas some kids can take all blow-off classes and get all As and still get in??? That doesnt make sense to me. so HELP ME GUYS THANKS!!!

I think you should send them. You have respectable grades in your AP classes. I don’t think they will care much if you have a “C” in an elective.

I wouldn’t send em. Your GPA is worse than before, and colleges don’t like downward trends.

I took AP and honors, and got straight A’s. I’m sure a lot of people did. U of M wants students who can both take advanced classes, and maintain good GPA’s Saying “I didn’t get straight A’s because the classes were too hard” will probably hurt more than help you.

How many students do you know that took all blow off classes and got accepted? Chances are, not many. Besides, there are other factors in determining admission, and I doubt you know everything there is to know about the student.
