I was recently deferred early decision from Duke. Since I've been deferred, I have received multiple pieces of mail, all making it sound as if I were accepted. For example, I got something from Jewish Life at Duke saying "as a student at Duke, you will..." Today I got a book thing and a small little "Portable Duke...Essential Information for First Year Students and Parents" booklet. Is this normal to keep receiving this stuff for people who were deferred? It's kind of annoying, to be honest, because it really makes it sound as if I were accepted when I really wasn't.

No, that doesn't sound normal at all. When my D was deferred on an EA application to Georgetown, she didn't hear from them again until March 31. I'd say that your confusing situation gives you a perfect opportunity to call an Admissions officer at Duke and ask for clarification. In the process, you'd have a chance to reiterate how very interested you are in Duke and ask what you might be advised to do to demonstrate that interest in the RD cycle.

That's interesting.... After I've been accepted, the only two things that I received are my big package (for accepted students) and a letter from the Dean of Trinity College. I remember receiving the little booklet in the mail. But I got it before I even applied. Hmm...Maybe it's because you are on their mailing list? You should probably call admissions for clarification.

definitely a reason to contact admissions. That sounds very, very peculiar.

Sounds really weird. I got accepted into Pratt and I haven't gotten anything accept for the original packet sent with the decision letter. Make sure it just isn't mass mailings, sometimes those happen.

Yeah, I assume it's a mass mailing. If it is, it's odd that I would get it now after applying early decision. I just read the Jewish Life letter. The opening sentence actually says something like "now that you've heard from the admissions office, I'd like to tell you about the Jewish Life opportunities you'll have here at Duke." I'll definitely call once the admissions office is back open after the holidays and ask why, and I guess make them know that I will still 100% go if admitted.

Maybe they really want you now! Who knows

i haven't gotten anything except the acceptance packet and the dean's letter
