Deferred...so scared

I was deferred last week, like so many of you. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I don't have any earthly idea where I would go if I don't get admitted to NEU. Here are my stats:

My info is: OOS, 30 ACT, 1300/1940 SAT, 3.5 GPA, Lots of ECs (tennis captain, swim captain, bowling team, Model UN, Habitat for Humanity internship, 100s of volunteer hours), born in India.

In probably in a month or so, I plan on sending admissions an email, explaining to them how my GPA has been rising each year and I have a 4.0 this year, I've been taking more AP classes, I visited and fell in love with the school, and how I will definitely attend if I get enough financial aid (should I say that?).

How do you think it looks? Any shot I get any scholarship money, if it looks good? I would definitely need some aid to attend. I'm so nervous guys, I really want to go here.

P.S. Are there any other schools like Northeastern I should consider applying to, in case I don't get in?

Try Drexel, they have a similar co-op program

I’m in the same boat, literally don’t know what to do…

Wow. Surprised you didn’t get in.
Your GPA is fine. Northeastern is a school weighs heavily on the SAT score. 1940 should be enough to get it. May be your Math section was low. They like to see high Math scores.
My daughter applied last year EA and was accepted w/ a lower GPA, about 3.0-3.2, but higher SAT, 2090 superscored. She also got 18k/yr merit scholarship, but no need based aid even though our EFC was under $7000.
My advice to you are

 1. Re-take SAT test on Jan. Yes, you can still send it before they make the final admission decision on March. If you can get over 2000, you have a great chance.
 2. Keep up your grade.
 3. Don’t tell them that you will attend if they offer enough financial aid. Honestly, they don’t care. They gave out so much merit scholarships that they don’t have much left for the lower-middle class students. SAT scores will decide how much you get! My daughter’s friend who also got in last year w/ GPA of 3.9, but SAT score of 1980. She got $12K/yr scholarship.
 4. If financial aid is a big concern for you, try other schools. NEU was my daughter’s first choice last year. She ended up going to another school because not only we can’t afford NEU, but she also got into a higher ranked school. So far, she like it a lot and was grateful she turned down NEU. Remember, w/ merit scholarship you have to keep your grades up for all 4 years or you will loose it.
 5. It’s true Drexel has a similar co-op program, but its neighborhood was awful. You will definitely get in w/ your stats, but FA wise, not much better.

Good Luck!

Send them the email if you feel it will help, but honestly don’t freak out over it. I got deferred too, but I have colleges that I got accepted into that I can afford and would be really excited to go to.
So add colleges to your list. If you’re looking in New England, look at the state schools. If you’re interested in math/science, WPI might be good. Just do research and apply ASAP because most deadlines are Jan 1st.

You really think I have a good shot of getting in? My GPA really isn’t too low?

I’ve also only taken 2 APs…but my school only offers 6, and in each AP class in my small high school, there are only a maximum of 10 kids. Should I mention that or not? And when would be a good time to send the email?

i’m pretty sure you’ll get in. I got in with a weaker GPA and 1 AP
