I just got my deferral letter in the mail today (I am OOS). I had applied for the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship - if I was deferred, does that mean I am no longer considered for scholarships? Do I even have a chance now?

Wait you heard back already???

Yeah. It’s not up on their website, as far as I know (haven’t bothered to log in, though, I just assume someone would’ve posted if it was). The letter was dated today. I wonder if I was just lucky in getting it so early.

it specifically says on the website that undergraduate application decisions aren’t available yet…weird…sorry about the deferral, but it’s not a rejection so at least that’s good!

Well, I swear on all that is holy I’m not lying…there’s nothing in it for me to lie and say I got deferred, anyway. Good luck, reglob!

Eszebel, what state do you live in?

I’m a Virginian.

Eszebel, sorry about the deferral, but maybe you’ll get in during RD. Can you give us your stats?

Sure thing :)

SATs: 2240
GPA: 3.92 unweighted (I don’t know what it is weighted)
Class Rank: no rank (I go to a Governor’s School)
ECs: President of Drama Club, lead roles in many plays, president of National English Honor Society, 2 seasons with a local Shakespeare company, 8 years of music lessons, multiple national creative writing awards and scholarships, lots of other stuff…

And thanks. I hope I do get in RD. I hear Chapel Hill has a fantastic creative writing program.

Was your deferral letter in a packet or single letter?

It was a single letter.

I’m glad to provide information for you guys, but can anyone actually answer my question?

I’m sorry, but if you were deferred, I doubt you will be considered for scholarships. I think they would only consider those who were accepted ED. Not to say that you are not good enough academically (your stats and ECs seem pretty impressive, but OOS admissions are ridiculous), but I really don’t think they would offer scholarships to deferred students, even if they get in RD. But good luck with RD! I really hope you are accepted.
