Deferred Students Thread!

So, I got deferred but JHU is still my first choice.
what should we do?
let's rant/discuss about our future plans.. :<

You apply everywhere else and when Hopkins finally accepts you, you say Ha, no thanks, you lost your chance.

being deferred feels weird… i don’t know if i should be happy or sad.

Found out I just got deferred. Hey, at least we didn’t get rejected. Let’s all finish strong senior year and hopefully get accepted in April. :)

i like the way you think jasung. :)

i heard deferred students have lower acceptance rate in RD…
I was so disappointed today phew.

Hopefully this should give you some information on being deferred ED, it’s pretty useful: [Early Decision Defers – Read This!](http://forums.hopkins-interactive.com/topic/6647544/1/)

Actually, that’s not true. I remember statistics that it was just about the same if not a little higher.

If they didn’t want you, they would’ve rejected you outright. They just want to see how you compare with the rest of the applicant pool.

Under the best of circumstances, the admissions process is a crap-shoot. Some very deserving students will get rejected, some will get lucky. Of the 39% accepted, my guess would be that 50-60% have scores and accomplishments that made the process and choices agonizing for the committee.

Have a good cry, dust yourself off, and make a plan to finish the remainder of your applications. Resist the urge to treat this as a judgement of your value, worth or accomplishments. Forgetting to put a comma in your essay didnt cause your deferral or rejection, that one B on your 9th grade math test wasnt the cause either.

Find a new school to fall in love with, or better yet, apply to a bunch and then fall in love with whichever school you choose. My D was rejected EA from her ‘dream school’, but in April had 10 schools (including a full ride, a Hodson, and a handfull of other merit scholarships) to choose from.

You will live through this, and you will not remember the sadness at all. Some will be picked by Hopkins, others will not. Come September you will be at the right school for you, starting 4 wonderful years.

I was deferred from barnard. thought for sure i was in!
Meanwhile, a girl in my school got in with SATs 300 points lower, lower courses, less-no ECs, and lower gpa. Its a crapshoot.

I don’t know if I should be proud that at least its a deferral or sad that I have to worry about this for 3 more months.
