What is one supposed to do after being deferred to try and improve chances of being accepted in the spring? Anything besides keeping up semester 1 grades?

I don't know if this is good advice or not, but had I been deferred, I was going to make it a point to keep sending Cornell updates when they became available... new test scores, information on awards... just to let them know that I was still interested.

I think one should possibly get another recommendation, possibly take standardized tests during the time and send the scores (which should be better), and possibly contact members of the college faculty more to inquire specifically about the major you are applying to. Perhaps e-mailing a professor and asking what interesting books he/she would recommend related to the major.
I contacted a profesor in the food science department and got a great recommendation, and the book is excellent.

cross your fingers and hope for the best, what college did you apply to?

CAS. I'm really nervous.

Thanks for the advice!

mostly penn-based....but if you cut through the filler there's some universal laws in there. and some good interviews. good stuff
