Hey!
I was on the waitlist this year for Case western Reserve and then upon being given the opportunity to simply join in Fall 2019 I chose to go for it because Case is far better than the other university I got into. For a while now I was on the search for a thread about Fall 2019 Deferred Admission at Case Western Reserve. I didn’t find anything about that. A few weeks ago I received a mail about how I can join Case this coming Spring(Jan, 2019). I thought about it for a while and I am now determined to enrol in the Spring semester.
I was in conversation with Mr. McCullough and learned that this is the first time in many years that Case has started Spring Enrolment.
And, I was simply wondering if there is anyone else out there who is in the same position as me. Mentally, I am ready to sail this boat alone, but hey, if you’re out there in a similar boat as me, I’d love to know you.
:)>-
welcome!
There was discussion on the deferral on this thread:

As you said, originally you could choose to be deferred to next year if offered, but now they have moved the opportunity to the spring, I assume because they have had space for housing.
There was a Class of 2022 FB group…maybe also look there for any students in your situation.
Hello! My son was offered the same. He made the decision to take a gap year because he really wanted to attend Case. Now he needs to decide whether to wait until Fall 2019 or start in Spring 2019.
He’d like to attend in January because his gap year isn’t shaping up like he’d planned, but…
there is concern about finding a niche and group of friends since it doesn’t appear there will be many new students in the spring. How easy will it be to fit in? He’ll miss out on all the freshman orientation activities that appear to be a big part of incoming freshman’s experiences.
Also wondering about the freshman writing seminar that students take fall semester and availability of introductory classes in the spring?
Anyone here that can speak to that? Thanks!
I would ask your admissions counselor about that. https://case.edu/admission/contact
Yeah, I reached out to admissions and they said that you should reach out directly.
Thank you. We have by phone and email. Of course they are very positive about what kind of experience he’ll have with advisors helping, etc…No one has an answer about the writing seminar though. Waiting on that answer from admissions.
I guess I was just hoping someone may have experience with starting in the Spring as opposed to Fall and could give their point of view about their experience.
I think this is a novel situation. In some sense that is good, as there will probably be resources put towards this.
I would imagine he would make friends in the cohort that starts in the Spring, in his dorm and in his classes and any clubs he joins.
Thanks for your feedback @bopper
@daisync I understand your son’s position and can relate to all your concerns quite well.
I reached out to the admissions by email and phone too. Like you said, I received a fairly positive response. I was informed that offering enrolment in Spring is something that Case hasn’t done in a while and that this is new, in a sense, for all of them.
I have made the decision to start in Spring, despite my concerns regarding how well I will be able to fit in. I imagine it isn’t going to be the exact same experience that a freshman starting in Fall would get but I believe things will fall into place sooner than later.
I was told there would be orientation for us too but nothing as long and intensive as a batch that starts in Fall.
@daisync about your question on the writing seminar… I would like to think that if the University is offering me a chance to start in Spring, that it would plan out the nuances of my arrival, classes and schedule in a proper manner and not leave me high and dry with no clear solution. It only makes sense that they would contact me about this opportunity to start in January if they believed I would have a fair experience as compared to those who started in Fall.
My only current concern is that I have repeatedly contacted the University about the specific dates of classes starting and other information and for some reason the conversation ceased from their end. I am still waiting for to them respond as of right now.
Good luck to you @MonkMaverick ! My son decided to wait until fall to start. I think it came down to clubs and feeling like some of the clubs he’d want to join would be full. Of course he’s just assuming that. He’s not the most outgoing person so for him joining clubs would be a way to meet new people and in the end that was what most worried him…meeting others. Would love to hear how things go for you in the spring!
While I can’t speak to the decision to start in the spring or next fall, I can say that the fall orientation was really well run and my daughter made great connections and friendships during orientation week. She is currently a freshman in the biomedical engineering program this year. I believe classes start Jan 14th 2019 and the dorms reopen on Jan 10th for the spring semester.
@Proudmama2 this is one of the most frequented thoughts of mine. Spring enrollment’s orientation will not be nearly as intensive and effective as the usual Fall one. I was hoping to look past it and get started with college but right now I haven’t heard from Case in almost two months. They’ve stopped responding to emails and I am left with little to no information on the updates about Spring enrollment. I figured that they must have nothing for me and that perhaps this is a fair indication that said Spring start is not taking place. I will give them a call first thing on Monday and see what the matter is. At this point both, Spring and Fall of 2019, sound equally appealing to me and I’m quite okay with either.
@MonkMaverick Wher you able to get any additional information from Case so you could make your decision?
@Proudmama2 I received an email this morning letting me know they’ve officially shifted me to Spring 2019 and an update in my application detailing the financial aid for the Spring semester.
