Deferred to seventh semester grades?

I got this today and I was a bit baffled. Granted my GPA's not the greatest (3.1/3.33), but I expected my ACT (30) and essay to make up for it. On top of that, a few very overqualified kids (like, 3.5+ GPA and 32 ACT+) at my school got the same thing. Has anyone else gotten this?

Also, does your choice of major play any role in acceptance? I'm pretty sure they said it didn't, but I never entirely trust what colleges say about this. I tried to ask when I called today, but got hung up on before I had the chance.

MSU is not as easy of a school to get into as most people think. I had a friend back in 08 (and admissions have gotten more strict since then) who was referred/rejected with a 3.2 and a 32 on the ACT.

Your GPA is in the bottom 25% of the freshmen class. And while your ACT is in the top 25%, it appears that MSU places more emphasis on grades than test scores (and this is from personal experience, nothing authoritative).

You haven’t been rejected. They just need to make sure that you are a strong and improving student. Get a 3.5+ GPA and you have a much better shot of being admitted.

Major plays absolutely no role in your admission.

^^^ exactly what romani said.

Daughter just heard from MSU this morning. Yeah! Dad and I are both alums from grad school.

Congrats to your D :)!

I got the exact same thing and I have nearly the exact same stats. I’m hoping that keeping my grades up this semester will help me to be admitted. Good luck!

Has anyone heard back yet? I know kids at school who were in this situation and they’ve heard back but I haven’t. Getting super antsy.
