deferred to top choice... should I do ED2 to a diff school?

hello,

I just got deferred from northwestern…

and I applied to ED2 to Emory before I found out about my nu decision

but I found out that northwestern defers only about 2% of applicants and a large number of deferred applicants get accepted through regular decision

should I hope for something and change my Emory decision? or should I just go for a “safer” route and stick with emory despite the odds for northwestern?

I would really appreciate anyones opinion :frowning:

thank you

I am interested in knowing whether this RD admission likelihood is true for deferred applicants at Northwestern. where did you learn this?

this thread!

Apply to Emory RD. Then there will be no conflict. ED2 is just as binding as ED1.

If you get a (binding) offer to Emory ED2, but will forever wonder if you would have got a northwestern offer that you would have preferred/regret not giving yourself that chance, then you should contact Emory and change your application to RD.

I think it all comes down to your confidence on Emory admit via RD. How important is the ED2 to get you into Emory?

If you are admitted ED2 by Emory, would you regret giving up a chance at Northwestern?

They defer very few but still admit very few. It’s not like all of the deferrals are accepted. However understand that means they thought you were very close. However the rd pools at most top schools are even more competitive than ED.

I see your dilemma. Perhaps the Emory RD is a good choice.

Hate to lose that ed2 advantage but if NU means that much to you, understand why you want to switch while you’re still in being considered.

Best of luck. Tell us how it all turns out in the end to help others.

@ucbalumnus I feel like if admitted to emory, I would wonder if I have gotten into nu and maybe regret a little bit. but not to the point that I would hate the acceptance to emory…

its really hard since they’re my two favorite schools… I have no idea what to do

@privatebanker I’m planning to write a letter of appeal and a more specific letter of recommendation from my teachers directly for northwestern…

I think the only thing that will change from my ed application will be my first semester senior year grades

(my classes are 5 APS and a student leadership class… with grades im predicting 2 B’s in AP Lit and AP gov and econ and the rest A’s)

will that reallllyyyy change anything? Im not sure if they are big factors that will change my admission plans.

I did take the SAT but im not confident over a 1500 either…:frowning:

& yes I would definitely share my results! I’ve gotten so much help from here

@Groundwork2022 @tgl2023 @momofsenior1

yes… but now im just scared that it will decrease my chance to emory since emory and nu are the only colleges Im looking forward to

I think this is the real thing that you have to work on. The reality is that the most likely outcome is still that you don’t get into either however you apply.

@Eeyore123 @privatebanker

update: I got into University of Michigan so I cancelled my binding to Emory!

Nice work!!!

Good job. I am assuming from the exclamation point that your are excited about Michigan.
