I was recently deferred to UGA :(

I have around a 3.7UW GPA 4.0W, and I totally aced my 1st semester of classes (lowest grade in AP Econ - 97, so that should bring it up)

Test Scores

SAT - 1540
R - 450
M - 640
R - 460 - im asian so my reading and grammar skills suck lol

ACT - 25
M - 27
R - 24, but I just took it again and got a 26 on R will they take the higher?

ive taken 5 aps - 4s on both ap us and ap calc, bc calc and ap econ have not tested yet

i live in GA, im in a couple of clubs including national honor society, french club, and sadd club and I have at least 50+ hours of community service, but that's it - i know i shouldve done more or tried harder

could anyone tell me what my chances are in getting in? please and thank you :)
and what should i do to better my chances of getting in?

As you know, UGA is getting really competitive these days…
your GPA seems good but your SAT scores (i don’t really know much about ACT) are pretty low. Most applicants have like 1800 ish scores don’t they??

yes, my sat score is way below average, but my act score is considered in the middle 50% acceptance rate (25-29 is middle 50%) so its at the bottom of that category

im about to take the sat again and im pretty sure i can get both my R and W to at least 530 if not more. so that by like a 1170 for CR + M.

If you’re poor in reading and writing, re-taking the ACT is your best bet. The questions in those categories are a lot less tricky and nit-picky in my opinion and I feel that it is easier to improve your score on that test.

Test scores really seem to be what is keeping you out at the moment and you need to show them that you are willing to try hard and do better. Best of luck.

unfortunately i dont think uga will accept act test scores taken after the month of january, if u think they do, let me know.

and i agree act is way simpler, i know my R and W wont be high enough, but i just dont know what else to do. i ve done like 1000 practice problems and only been able to raise it that little. i just have a hard to understanding what im reading, any advice on how to raise my score.

oh yea - my act somposite score is a 25, but ive made higher scores on seperate sections. critical reading - 26, science - 27, math - 27 will they super score that and give me a higher composite score.

Here’s the deal:

UGA’s EA decisions are primarily based off of standardized test scores and curriculum rigor. EC’s aren’t even considered, and grades don’t have as much weight as in the RD pool. Your lowish standardized test scores may be the reason for your deferall.

UGA’s RD decisions are based off the whole picture: Grades, EC’s, everything. Your grades should definitely help you out this time around, and if you have good EC’s those should help too.

Not sure if UGA superscores ACT (never taken it), but I’d give you about a 50/50 chance of getting accepted RD. Being in-state should help as well.

UGA just got my ACT tests scores, and they did superscore it. Now I have a composite score of 26, CR - 26 and M - 27, i wonder if that will give me a better chance.

Not always I have a friend who had a 1710 and got in early. But his EC’s were great, pres of interact club, nhs treasurer, sexton at church, etc.

For 2011 EA admits, the mid 50% SAT (CR+M) was 1230-1390 and the ACT was 28-32.

For the combined EA & RD for 2010:

SAT-I Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students 1800 - 2080

SAT-I Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students (CR&M): 1190 - 1360

Overall SAT-I Average of Admitted First-Year Students: 1263

ACT Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students: 27 -31

Overall ACT Average for Admitted First-Year Students: 28

Best of luck to you.
