So I applied to Cornell ED and I got deferred… I then applied to Tufts ED II and got deferred… Can anyone explain why I got deferred twice cause I have no idea what they want from me because Tufts already has my first semester senior year grades and still chose to defer me…
Your application was good enough that they didn’t throw it out, but not good enough that they can say “accept” right now. So, both schools want to see what this year’s applicant pool looks like before making a final decision.
they are different schools. So you technically haven’t been deferred twice
@pallavijaniani Technically the OP has been deferred twice (just not from the same school.)
Your applications for both aren’t strong enough to be accepted ED. However they aren’t weak enough to be denied admission yet either. The most likely reasons are grades and/or test scores, although it could be something else like ECs, essays or lukewarm recommendation letters. Basically, you didn’t compare well to the rest of the ED applicants, but they still want to compare you to the RD applicants. You may still be accepted to either or both schools. If you are accepted to both you’ll now be able to choose since you were deferred.
It is important to continue to show interest by communicating with your admissions counselor, especially with Tufts which considers the level of an applicant’s interest.
At this point your applications are in so I"m not sure what kind of help you are looking for. As long as you applied wisely to a mix of reach, match, and safety schools you like, you should be fine in the end.
Is it possible because I chose a not well known major like nutrition science and there’s not enough people to compare me to…
You will find out soon enough. I’d imagine Cornell has plenty of applicants in all majors.
