One of the deferral letters reads:
“Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.”
You need to read your deferral letter. If it says “the most successful candidates do not send more than required”, this is basically telling you: Send your grades and nothing else. If you send them other things, it actually might harm you, i.e., “less successful candidates”.
You of course may send a short email of continued interest. But listen to what they are flat out telling you…
whats the difference between a mid year report and a mid year transcript? the counselor has to send the mid year report, right? for my transcript, i sent it directly to common app through parchment.
Hi, so I’m planning to write a letter of commitment to the admissions officer, and my school counselor is going to send a letter, too.
I know people send letters of interest, but what do you guys think about letter of commitment? Saying that I will go no matter what when accepted through regulars…
I was just shocked when a few people were accepted through early since our school sends about 15-20 to Michigan each year.
Have you guys been emailing your emails of continued interest to the Admissions counselor assigned to your region, or have you been sending them to the main UMich admissions email?
(Also, I am correct in assuming these continued interest letters were sent as emails right? Or did some of you also send UM physical letters?)
Thank you.
I emailed my admissions counselor the other day with very specific questions regarding sending transcripts, etc. I mentioned nothing about my “commitment” to Michigan if accepted, nor said anything along the lines of a letter of continued interest (Michigan is not my top choice). He replied with basically the same generic, cookie cutter email that you all had received after sending your letter of interest. Kinda ticked me off a bit, it seemed as if he didn’t even read my email. He answered one of my six questions.
While I realize Michigan is a large school and this gentleman is probably in contact with thousands of students, it definitely affected how I view the school. Michigan is no doubt an incredible institution, but this exchange confirmed tales I had heard/read of Michigan not truly caring for its students. It is very disheartening. I am disappointed that he could not take the time to help out a prospective student and answer specific questions.
Just thought I would share my experience and see if anyone had one similar.
