Florida Atlantic Univ. in Palm Bch, Fl returned a deferred decision today (we applied early) ..due to low tests scores (sat was 1260) She just took the SAT again..however is there anyone else out there with a similiar story they want to share?

It’s hard when it happens. My oldest was deferred and eventually rejected from both MIT and Caltech eventually he was rejected. He ended up going to Carnegie Mellon which turned out to be a great fit for him. He’s had wonderful internships and a job lined up. One thing the deferral helped him realize was that presentation counts, it’s not all about the numbers (except when it is!), and that sometimes it’s all for the best. Often this is the first time our kids have had to deal with rejection and it’s not easy, but it’s an important lesson to learn.

No insights except to see if there are other reasonable schools that are slightly less selective. Both DDs were waitlisted at their top choices and decided to not worry about those schools and move on to others.

30 years ago I was deferred from what I had already realized was not the right choice for me (I’d been in fantasyland while applying). It was the greatest gift I was ever given - it forced me to look further for what was right for me. And in December I found a school that was so much better and so much more meaningful. I will always be grateful that the deferral pushed me to think more about what I really wanted, even though at the time it was painful.

And I was ultimately rejected from that school, too. By that time I was laughing about it.
