I was not expecting a deferral. But I was luckily given another chance to be reevaluated in rd. I don’t understand why I was defered, my bio:

Applied for CS Major
Private school, 3.3gpa weighted, taken multiple honors, currently taking calc honors and ap computer science; played on 13th ranked soccer team in the nation and play year round; taken classes at community college for CS, taken idtech class at brown university, captain and creator of schools cyber security team(state champs) soccer team(state champs), track team (state champs), gaming club, acsl, ski club, worked at boys and girls club and volunteer overnight camp… Recommendation letter from math teacher, guidance counselor and coach. And a lot more, I don’t understand why I was deferred if anyone has a reason why, if you can help that would be great because I want to send more info to them to better my chances…
1700 SAT & 3.3 weighted GPA is really low for a competitive major like CS.
Schools like URMs but they don’t like people dropping out because they can’t handle the coursework.
Ya the “average” student last year had a 3.78 WGPA and a 1220 (M+R SAT). CS is one of the most competitive majors at UMass and as you would expect the average SAT and GPA in the CS major would be even higher than average. UMass LOVES GPA so I would consider yourself lucky that they are still considering you for CS.
My guess is that you were deferred because UMass does not have time to evaluate the nuances (e.g. school rigor, ec’s) in your application that might otherwise help you get in elsewhere.
Were you recruited for soccer or do you plan on trying out? I don’t know much about recruiting at UMass but I wonder if this would help.
No i wasn’t recruited for soccer, because i don’t plan on playing soccer i want to focus on more important things like my study
Well as others have said, 3.3WGPA is very low for a competitive major. You might ask your guidance counselor to give them a call. Although I’m not sure this would be very fruitful at UMass, they are just dealing with so many applications.
CS is very math-heavy. If AP Calc is offered at your school and you are not taking it, or if your Math teacher’s rec was not great, this could be why you were deferred from CS.
Sorry I can’t help more, let’s hope for the best in RD.
