Got “deferred” as OOS, 1300 SAT, 4.2 GPA, 3 varsity sport athlete, tons of extracurricular activities, NHS etc. Denied for the Fall of 2018 but accepted for January of 2019 (middle of the year) with my second choice of major (Graphic Communications). I can transfer 6 months of credits from a community college either from a random state, my state (PA) or in SC. Anyone else get this option? Waiting to hear from other options as well…
I have two legacies as well, mom and aunt.
@evergreen15 my son is in same boat. Definitely better that than a waitlist offer. Still disappointing though. My son feels if they didn’t want him first semester then why should he bother ( he feels a little insulted). He has very similar stats, 1350 SAT, 6 APs total, dual enrollment at CC, varsity athlete (club athlete 10 years) and double legacy. I think it may have to do with impacted majors too. We are still waiting to hear from a few more schools. He did get into Elon and Baylor and a private CA school.
Agreed. I am worried that I will feel separated from the campus and the students who will go in the fall. The freshman orientation is even separate… I applied to Elon as well, have gotten accepted to Pitt and Penn State and am waiting to hear from William and Mary (legacy). Waiting on 5 other schools. Clemson is still and option but I am extremely disappointed, as my mom’s side all went and have been involved for a while.
Has anyone heard of a deferred to January admission getting moved to August? I know that some waitlisters have now been granted fall admission.
Waitlist and deferment are 2 different things. We emailed and asked about the deferment and they responded saying my son is definitely in 2nd semester as long as the criteria in letter was met and that they’d be in touch during first semester to check on grades and give further instructions. Waitlist is usually a polite rejection with occasional acceptance but with what I’ve read and know from people who helped with this years admissions the number of qualified applicants was against everyone who applied.
