LOL GoBlue! That's crazy! Your son isn't applying to Wisconsin is he? That would just be nuts. I have lots of sports ECs. I designed and maintain an elite sport website, did work for people in Sports, and play sports including being a captain of a team. Was also president of orchestra.

are u applying to wisconsin???

Yes, i've already applied to Wisconsin, but no decision.

You guessed it, Wolves. Wisconsin is on the list. Although, not as many degree options as IU, no sport mngmnt--just business, so probably won't win out. Admissions is tough so it may not be an option anyway. And their winters are long. The spring flowers were in full bloom at IU when we visited in mid-March. Son lives, eats, and breaths athletics...three sport varsity letterman, captain of two out of three, awards, etc., etc., so the S.M. curriculums which include business courses would be great for him. You-guys both have great, relevant EC's but, unfortunately, small # of admits to UM's program. I'm sure Lloyd Carr uses the Kinesiology majors for preferred admissions for his blue-chip recruits. Used to be the School of Ed. when I was there--probably still uses that too. Son's also been admitted to the B-schools at Loyola Chicago (B.B.A.-Sports Management) and DePaul. They offer freshman-entry business programs and are solid schools in a great city. He's also been talking to lacrosse coaches at a few LAC's. May go that route, but probably would end up an Econ. major. Limited academic options compared to the others. Anyway, he's leaning toward going Big 10 and playing Club. He'd like a school with all the bells and whistles, especially those football Saturdays. We've got season tickets to The Big House so he loves that whole scene!

Hey Wolves!! Misery loves company so I thought I'd let you know--son was deferred to U of M today. Two-parent legacy don't mean squat! Wish we could have coughed up a couple mil for a new lab or something. I bet his GPA would have looked a whole lot better to them. Did an alum just suggest they could be bought? LOL !!! If he goes Big 10, looks like it'll be Indiana. He ended up blowing off Wisconsin's app--just wasn't into it. New development this past week...Kalamazoo College's football coach came to visit him at his school. His H.S. team went 12-1 and got to the D3 semi-finals/final four. The players got a lot of exposure and several coaches have come calling. We'll see what happens. It might be a good way to get into a great LAC since admissions is tough there too.

Hey GoBlueAlumMom

Feeling the same way, deferred just took all the enthusiasm I had about the school pretty much out, it was a killer, but I always have hope, and know that I can't pass up an educational oppurtunity like Michigan could give me for the value they are to me.

However, I do know that about half the deferred applicants are later admitted, meaning there is still hope, actually, more than hope out there. It's a 50/50 chance, which is a lot better than my chances would be at most colleges.

Wisconsin just doesn't seem realistic if Michigan isn't going to accept me. I don't seem into it either, because it doesn't have the program I want, and tuition is high for out-of-staters, and especially hard considering both my parents are currently unemployed.

Congrats of the Kalamazoo College news! That's great that your son's football team did that well. I got a bunch of mail from K-Zoo, wanting me to apply, but I just don't see myself at a small school where Athletics aren't that important, rather looking for a true college experience. Of course, money can change things, lol.

Here's to a snow day tomorrow!

Hey Wolves,

If it makes you feel any better, Michigan will never give its students another snow day. They used to do so but were sued by a parent who complained about losing money (and the parent won). I guess that parent cared more about money than protecting the students and thus screwed over everyone else in the process. Michigan won't make itself a liability again. It's kind of sad actually. Michigan can't stop school to protect its students for fear of being sued for doing so. Well, I'm 100% on Michigan's side on this one. I'd defend them in court if they ever go back for giving a snow day (which I know will never happen again since no more will ever be given)!

hahaha... oh lawsuits. thats too bad- a snow day would be awesome

Snow day coupled with an acceptance for me tommorow would make me estatic.

If a snow day happens, see you fools at Mt. Holly.

Mt. Holly huh? Where are you from in Michigan? I live really close to there.

Shelby Township (borders Rochester and Sterling Heights).

Mt. Holly is a good 45 minutes away, but it's the best value for the money in a reasonable drive.

Just remember that if you apply to Kines, a lot of what you read here doesn't apply to you. Obviously the greatest number of apps go to Engin & LSA, and due to those large numbers those apps are managed differently. People here on CC know a lot less about the smaller units and their admissions (although there is lively, informative discussions about Music at times).

I wish both A2Wolves and AlumMom's son the best of luck-I hope things work out for you with an acceptance at Michigan. Kinesiology seems like such a neat niche here.

Yeah, son thought he had decided he didn't want a small school either, especially after doing the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan college tours, but the academic quality, study abroad program, and internship program of K-College is appealing to him. The defensive coach that's recruiting him even has his MBA! He met with a few coaches for lacrosse and football at some D3 schools. Most had nice campuses (like Denison, DePauw, Albion, etc.), but no college towns to go along with them. He's considering K-College because WMU is right across the street and there's a lot of student activity in K-Zoo. And, he'd be close enough to come back for Michigan football games which is the only team he really cares about anyway. Even if he goes to Indiana, he said Hoosier football won't be the same for him (and they suck besides!). Like you said, if they show us some $ in merit aid, that'll put a different spin on things.

hoedown--Thanks for your good wishes. My husband and I thought it was pretty cool that our son was so enthusiastic about our alma mater, especially since kids tend to go in the opposite direction of their parents. I wish passion counted for something with admissions. He was positively effusive about the school in his essays--very genuine and heartfelt. It's especially tough since we have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to be a successful student there, and that he'd be perfectly capable if given the opportunity. It's all such a numbers game. You're right about the Kinesiology department--pretty neat, and the Sport Management program had his name written all over it. Sigh...
