Deferred With Strong Application?

Hi,

I submitted my application for the fall 2019 term at UCF about two weeks ago. My stats are:

1520 SAT
4.0 UW/4.34 W GPA
100+ Community Service Hours
Multiple clubs throughout high school
National Hispanic Recognition Program

UCF is my first choice right now and so I’ve been checking the application status page every couple of days but today I noticed that it was changed to this:

"Your application has undergone an initial review and is currently deferred for further evaluation with the Admissions Committee. A decision may be delayed as we assess the strength of this year’s applicant pool.

If you would like to submit additional information or test scores to improve your competitiveness and allow us to make a more immediate decision, please send additional credentials to the UCF Office of Undergraduate Admissions, P O Box 160111, Orlando, FL 32816-0111."

I emailed the admissions department to see if they need any further documentation, but they have already received my transcript and SAT score and so I wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience in the past. I really was not expecting to get deferred and I’m wondering why it could be that that happened. I’ve just been waiting on getting accepted and seeing what scholarship offers are available to me to completely make up my mind after touring the campus last Wednesday, but UCF is definitely my first choice right now.

I honestly wouldn’t be worried about it at all. About 80% of the people that I know at UCF got deferred at first. It is weird with your stats being so high but I would just check in with them once a week

I have twins.

1 has a 1300 SAT with a 4.45 GPA and got into UCF last week.
Other has 1270 SAT with 4.51 GPA and got what you received today.
I can’t imagine you and her NOT getting in eventually.
Not to mention UCF has the Top 10 Knight program which I am sure you qualify for.

Johny,by all means call. Because I have twins and their applications were similar my wife called to see if they were missing anything and it turns out they were confused about something. She has now been accepted. Please call them.

Wow, Thanks FLtheaterDad, I’ll give them a call tomorrow. It might be something like the situation you’ve described as that’s what would make the most sense.

Did you take many AP or DE classes? Honors?

Tgh123 Yes, I’ve taken 3 AP classes and 5 DE classes (all of the hardest classes my school offered)

It could have been yield protect. That means they don’t want to “waste” an acceptance on you since your stats are so high when they know you can get into many other great places that you’d probably go to over them.

@johny4427 Did you call the admissions office? You should tell UCF they are your number 1. If you are instate make sure your residence is listed correctly in your account- this was a problem last year.
