I applied EA to Northeastern University and they moved me to RD. NU is my #1 choice, so what are my chances of getting in now? My senior year grades are my highest in HS, so I have no problem with them seeing my mid-term report which is what their asking for. All I need to know are my chances for being accepted into RD.

ummm bump…

i think you’re good actually. if you say that your senior grades are the best you’ve ever had you’ll be showing them that you’re actually improving. colleges really like that.
i wouldn’t worry TOO much if i were you. percentage of deferred students getting admitted is not bad at all. so don’t freak out, make sure you apply to some safeties, and good luck :)

It is very difficult to say for sure. My understanding that about 10-15% of deferred applicants are admitted during RD at elite universities.

Yea, but I’m still a little scared, anything can happen. I just want to know how many people who were deferred from NU get in.

So no one has anything else to say?

It varies by school, though the admissions rate for deferred applicants typically matches that of RD applicants.

OP, it’s possible you were deferred so they could take a look at your midyear grades. It’s also possible there were more fundamental problems with your application. We don’t know, so we can’t give you accurate chances.

My DD got deferred from NE also - I just read on the Northeastern Thread on this board that they had a 23% increase in admissions! With those statistics, who can say if they even could READ them alll?

Don’t worry about it. If your senior year grades are good, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Atleast you didn’t get rejected either so you have a good chance. Continue doing well in your classes, send in anything recent that you’ve done, and you should be good.
Just apply to other colleges similar to Northeastern or a level lower. If you dont get in, you can do better and transfer to Northeastern next year or something :)

My daughter is in the same boat: NU #1 and deferred EA. She has 2 schools other schools that she believes she could be happy at: UNH & Roger Williams. She’s already been accepted at UNH and, though she has yet to hear from Roger Williams, folks there seemed to indicate that she’d have no trouble getting in with her stats and might even get into their honors program.

But she’s still hoping for that letter of acceptance from NU…

As far as advice goes, it’s the usual stuff: keep your grades up and make sure they know about any honors that come your way in the meantime. And you did apply to a couple of safeties, right?

Best of luck!!

Make sure the admissions office knows this is your #1 choice and that if accepted, you will attend – if this is true, of course.

@ dswinnh - I applied to Roger Williams EA and I’m trying to remember if there was a special application to the honors program or if you are invited to apply after you’re accepted…

There is a special application and second essay for Roger Williams Honors program. There is a GPA (3.5) and SAT (1250) hurdle as well.

Of the 5 people that i know who applied to Northeastern EA, all five got deffered. 3 of them are the top three in my class. Just thought I’d throw that out there haha
