I was notified that my application was deferred until the Academy receives my semester grades. I called my RD, and was told that this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I Board just wants to see the grades. I was also told that many candidates are deferred for one reason or another. I'm concerned though, nontheless.

My grades are fine--AP/Honors classes mostly, with the exception of fourh year CADD. The College Board somehow still hasn't gotten my updated scores to the Academy. I called them last week, and they said they'd rush them, but they're still not posted. I'm sending a copy of the origional as well.

In my District, my MOC sends a list of names to the Academy, and they choose. My RD said that once the grades have been received, my packet will go back before the Board within two weeks. The fact that I've been deferred won't hurt my chance for a nomination.

Our Blue and Gold officer called to tell our son he was "deferred for more information" after the first board meeting following his entire packet including the B&G interview was done. This was about the first week of October. About two weeks later he sent us an email stating that he was "Qualified" and about two weeks following he received his Qualified to compete for appointment letter just prior to our going to CVW. We never knew why but we're sure it wasn't his grades or scores. We didn't know if his vision waiver was the reason or his lack of a varsity sport (other sports though). Anyway that's how it worked for us and now he has an interview with our congressman in a few weeks.

Best wishes. We were confused by the "deferred" status and wondered if they just didn't get through all the candidates that day. It sounds like yours won't be a problem if your grades are good.

We were told it takes several weeks for scores to be updated to the web. Our son's entire packet was completed in June and wasn't posted until July 14th.
Again...best of luck! JM

guys... also if you get deferred and get sent to a prep school for a year its really not that bad. i was sent to a prep school for a year because my med waiver was a week late being processed! so if you get deferred longer than you so hoped don't give up if the academy is what you really want. naps and a civilian prep school is totally awesome and will teach you essential skills your going to need when you get to usna! trust me... i'm there and i'm doing it... also it will make classes at the academy much easier and the transition into college easier!
