What can i do to maximize the strength of my application?
does anyone have any tips or tricks?
is sending them a letter a good or bad idea?

There really are no “tricks” to getting in after being deferred, and to be honest, you shouldn’t be looking for tricks to acceptance. Hard work and some luck will get you in, not “tips or tricks” you find on the internet. It’s kind of offensive to the kids who approach deferment as a need to step up and make great 7th semester grades to talk about “tricks” to getting in.

Sending a letter probably can’t hurt, although I can hardly see it making or breaking a deferred accept/reject decision. The best thing you can do is keep working hard, make backup plans, and keep UM in mind.

i wasnt trying to be offensive at all. uofm is my number one choice and im trying to do what i need to do get accepted.

Two year ago, one of my friends had a 3.30 and a sub-30 ACT score. He sent a really well-written letter stating why he loved UMich and why he wanted to attend it, and it helped him get it. The fact that his whole family had attended probably helped too.

I hope to see you on campus next year. Go Blue!

Try calling your admissions counselor and talk to her/him about how bad you would really like to go and how important it is to you that you attend. They will ask you different questions like: What makes you interested in the University of Michigan? How important is getting into U of M for you? etc. My admissions counselor told me that my GPA (3.58 unweighted) was slightly lower than most and that my 1st semester grades for this year might help boost my chances for admissions. Sending a letter shouldn’t hurt anything either. Best of luck! BTW what are your stats?

i have a 26 ACT and a 3.7 gpa but im applying to kines.

I believe those are good stats for kines. Obviously they are still interested in you because you got deferred and not denied. They say they EXPECT to receive over 40,000 applications but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will.
