I was deferred from Northeastern the other day and I was wondering how likely it is to be accepted in the regular decision pool. Please help.

Stats would help. As many have said in the EA thread, a deferral isn’t a soft rejection like many schools but good stats still help a lot.

@PengsPhils 3.749 gpa weighted (our school doesnt do unweighted but if i had to guess i would guess probably 3.65ish) , 2000 sat (1300 m/cr), a lot of extra curricular activities, and a really good essay

On the bubble pretty much, probably more likely denial than acceptance. Not fully out of it though. With this year’s cutoff appearing to be going up as it has every year in the past decade now almost, I would say about a 20% chance. Have other plans but don’t give up hope. One opinion here of course though, and I wish you the best of luck.

@PengsPhils I got deferred and I was hoping I could get an estimation too…
GPA: uw: 3.7 w: 4.0 (1 C in precalc honors)
Rigor: 3 AP’s and 7 honors classes by graduation
ACT: 30 (31 superscored) with a 35 in english
EC’s: 3 years dance team
1 year student council member
2 years journalism - 1 year as editor
3 years members at large
350 service hours
Board member of a non-profit organization
Work part-time in a clothing store and as a private tutor
I’m an active member of 3 additional clubs at my school
Recs: 2, should be pretty solid
Essay: I’ve heard it was really good but I still don’t know really…

Do I have a chance at getting in for RD? I really want to go here, I’ve visited and called already, does interest help?? Thanks!!!

@user990 your application doesn’t look too competitive to me, I would say likely not but hey you never know. What worries me is the EC’s- super scattered and you don’t seem all that dedicated- you have plenty of them, but almost too many to where it seems like you’re not having a big effect in any of them. Also, the ACT scares me a little- 30 isn’t bad, but the fact that you got a 35 in English means your other scores were a little lower than 30, or one score was waaaay lower than 30. That is concerning. Like I said you never know and I’m just one person on the internet but I’m gonna guess no. Keep up hope!

@novafan1225 I don’t know because most of my stuff is 2-3 years since I didn’t know I had opportunities in freshman or sophomore year to do things… So most of my involvement is in consecutive years, just later in high school. I listed my years of involvement but I don’t know if that helps at all. My ACT was 35, 28, 30, 28.
