I just got deferred and was wondering if there is anything I can do to increase my chances. Also I wanted to write a letter to admissions stating my interest but I can’t find my admissions officer, so where should I send it?
Is deferral indicative of the final decision? Or is it much harder to be admitted early?
Does anyone know Georgetown’s policy on sending letters to admissions about deferrals?
Georgetown is one of the relatively few schools where it is harder to get in EA vs. RD. Over the past few years, Early Admission rates have hovered around 13%, while Regular Decision is around 16%. Your application will get a fresh look as part of the RD applicant pool, and there is no penalty for an EA deferral.
If you call the Admissions Office, they may tell you who the contact person is for your region. I don’t know if there is an official policy, but I can’t imagine it would hurt to send your rep a letter reiterating your interest in Georgetown. Also, schools are always concerned about their “yield rate” (i.e., the % of accepted students who enroll), so if it is your intention to go to Georgetown should you be accepted, you might mention that as well.
Finally, and most importantly, stay focused on continuing to do well in your senior year to strengthen the case that you should be a Hoya!
Thank you so much!
