I was deferred from Tufts, so right now I'm in the process of doing the supplements for 12 colleges that are due between Jan. 1 and Jan 15- what a pleasant way to spend the holidays! Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to call the Tufts admission office to ask if there were any specific reasons why I was deferred. I have a feeling that a lot of it probably had to do with the fact that I need a full scholarship and they said that I they were missing our tax forms, but I really want to know if it was also because of academic credentials so I won't waste my time applying to a bunch of reach schools...

over the phone the financial aid department told me that no students would be rejected under ED if the financial aid offices were missing any paperwork or needed too much money. Those are two separate realms, especially for ed

Well, I wasn't rejected, but I thought that part of the situation might have been caused because Tufts isn't need-blind and I need a full scholarship and have missing forms. I don't know...

Hey Lefty, I was missing forms too...I thought it was the 2004 tax return sheet though, which no one could hand in yet...I'm kinda confused about that too

It said I was missing both the FAFSA (obviously) and a copy of the 2003 or 2004 tax forms, which I had submitted with my fee waiver form. Total weirdness.

Were you accepted?

i was missing tax forms which turned up after i was already accepted.

sorry to bother you, but do you think you can post your stats? im doing RD, just want to see how much of a shot i have...thanks...

yeah, i had 1400 on the sat1 (700m 700v), 760 writing, 670 lit, 670 math 1c, i have a ton of EC's, some fantastic teacher recs, and a lot of background in writing, which prompted an email from the dean of admissions saying that my essays were some of teh best he'd ever seen.

well then...1340 sat, 720, 710, 630 on sat 2's, lot of ec's, good teacher recs., good essays, i think, the optional tufts essay is really creative...but prolly not good enough to get a letter from the dean of admissions...so, my chances aren't as good as yours were...hopefully still enough...does anybody have tips on the tufts interview, like types of questions asked...

my interview was a little strange...it was at this woman's house, which was a tad uncomfortable, and her dog kept humping my leg.

She asked "how would your friends describe you as a person? how would your parents describe you as a person? As a student?"

"Why did you choose to apply to tufts?"

"what are you interrested in majoring in?"

"what was an obstacle that you overcame?"

etc.

my interview was strange too.. it was at the person's job and oddly enough there was a dog that kept sniffing me.. weird on the coincidences i guess :)

he basically just let me talk for an hour.. throwing in questions like,

"what are your positive personality traits?"

"and on the flipside, your negative ones?"

we also talked a lot about my ECs.

alergic, wat were your essays about? congrats on the letter from the dean!

my essays..... well, I have a writing style that is very conversational, but very emotional. It's taken years of writing for the sake of writing to hone it down. My main essay was externally about overcoming obesity and losing weight, but was really about an emotional awakening that was years coming. The supplimental essay was very incidental and slice of life. It was about midnight talks that i have with my dad, but it was written in the "would" form, so i was able to make it sound universal.
