Deferred!

Hey guys,

My Early Action decision came on the 18th…I got deferred! The deferral rate for this school has been historically high (~70%; EA acceptance: 14.5% this year). I am wondering if there is any advice, tips besides sending in the updated info. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

The only other thing you can do is let them know you are still interested in attending (if it’s your first choice let them know).

You can send a short note to affirm your interest…if true, you can write something like “if accepted I will attend”.

Some schools have mid-year forms for deferred applicants. If so, fill out the form with any updates and no letter is needed. Even without a form, update the school with any relevant information - mid-year transcripts, any accomplishments/awards that would have gone on your application, but occurred after the deadline.

I’d suggest waiting a few weeks before sending a note. It may stand out a little more, and you can mention how you are still strongly interested and give a brief update of anything new. (At the least, that you will be sending in the midyear report soon.)

I’ve heard admissions reps say that one relatively short, strongly meant note can help. A long letter, or 2 or 3 notes, or sending in materials they didn’t ask for will not help, though it could annoy.

^^Ditto that.
