Hi all, it seems like Pitt doesn’t officially “defer” people, but a month or so after I applied for nursing I got a letter requesting that I send the committee my first semester senior year grades before they make a decision. My stats are 35 ACT (36 E 36 W 36 S 33 M), 3.4 W GPA (I got Cs second semester junior year but I got almost all As this semester, and this semester’s grades aren’t factored into my GPA yet), and I have pretty good extracurriculars/essays. I wrote in my essays about why junior year is so bad for me and, if given the chance to show them, my first semester senior year grades would be much better and would more accurately show my potential as a student. My thinking is that if they liked me enough to consider taking a chance on me while seeing last year’s grades, then they’ll be happy with me delivering the results I promised in my essays. Should I get my hopes up? Thank you!
It looks promising, great job!
The concept of deferring an application doesn’t make sense for schools like Pitt that have rolling admissions. There’s no EA/ED or RD application deadline, and no fixed EA/ED or RD notification dates. The fact that they asked for your first semester grades indicates that they weren’t ready to deny your application. Based on your first-semester performance I would be encouraged.
