got a letter from wisconson saying my application has been postponed and that a decision will be made by march 15...blahh kinda depressing, some of the people that got in had similar stats as me:( oh well, now i wait...

looking at your stats I'd say a good senior report will get you in. Maybe a 3.75+ uw

yeah, i wouldn't just wait. Work really hard for the rest of ur year. Plus send in some extra awards, recs, essays, etc. telling them that it really is your first choice. good luck.

yeah unfortunately my sem. grades won't be so hot...prolly 3.7w/3.4uw..but thats more bc of family stuff which i dunt think i'll really touch on cuz i don't wanna sound like im makin excuses to the adcom...but yea i already wrote a letter emphasizing my dedication to wisc. and am comtemplating retaking sat/act...good luck to everyone else tho!
oh and anyone else deferred/rejected?

how do you find out? I thought uw was rolling.

it is, when they review ur app, they either accept, reject, or postpone...if you're postponed i guess they wait and see if there is available space for you

there should be, the school's huge

haha yeah hopefully...i'm not really sure how many of their deferred students they accept, but i hope the number is high:)

anyone else got deferred (or rejected)

Does Wisconsin post anything on the Admissions website when an applicant is deferred?? We were told a letter was in the mail to us and a decision has been made but the website only says that the application is complete. I'm assuming that the letter on the way is a deferral.

for me, the website didn't say my application was postponed until well after i received the letter. I wudn't assume the letter your getting is a deferral, good luck tho. does anyone know the rate of acceptance of deferred applicants?

my guidance counseler told me that about 50% of postponed applicants end up getting accepted to madison. so your chances are pretty good!

they only admit a small amount in the "first" admission pool. I don't know if this is unique to madison or what but if you attend their campus tour it's made clear about their process. You apply. Top 25% stats? In. Rest are deferred. Then you compete on stats along with space left. I know several 3.8 GPAs who were deferred... 3/3 were admitted.

My son just received his postponement letter. Disappointed but good to hear that most get deferred until March. He's applying to the College of Engineering - is that more difficult to get into than Arts and Sciences? Can he be rejected from Engineering and then admitted into Arts and Sciences? Thanks in advance.

Major does not matter. You really don't even get into eng until second year.

so is no one initially rejected really?
