Deferred :(

hey guys-

i was deferred ED and i was wondering if it's a good idea to write cornell a letter explaining how it's still my first choice and how i REALLY want to go there blah blah blah. also, i retook sat2s in december and i got a 740 on math 1C ( i got a 620 in october) but i bombed chem (540) and i wanted to send them to cornell b/c i want them to see my math but are they going to like hate me and like totally reject me b/c of chem?! when i visited cornell they said the SAT2s can pretty much only help you, not hurt you so i just alreayd sent them anyways. was that a bad idea? i havent taken chem since last year and i didnt study for it so i was thinking maybe i could have my g.c write a letter saying why i bombed it or maybe i can send a letter on my own?
i called them to ask them this stuff but they just gave me the old "whatever you feel will help your application" stuff.
some feedback would be greatttttttttttttttt (maybe if there are any people on this board who got into cornell but were deferred at first-what did you do?)

i think it wont hurt to send your scores. and if you got a good grade in Chem, that might cover a lower score in SAT2 Chem a little. (i mean colleges know these tests are not an accurate meter-stick of knowledge)

and i dont think writing an letter explaing why you boomed your SAT2 chem wouldnt do any good.

I'd send. (nice score on Math1c)
p.s what was your SAT1 score , and what's your intended major? (it wouldnt be nice if you wanna do Chemistry -_-)

I would say don't send the letter explaining the chem bombage... it just sounds like you're making excuses you know? I would, however, send the "Cornell is still my first choice, etc." letter. Probably, if you have a good Chem grades and a good final exam chem grade, they SATii won't hurt too much (the admissinos reps get your transcript, so they can probably tell "oh yeah, he took chem a year before the SATII). Nobody really knows what will hurt and what won't in the SATII situation, but I'd say send your SATII scores. Good luck, hope to see you in Ithaca next fall :-P!

Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed haha.

dreaming-my SAT1 score was 1370 (700V, 670 M). major= biological sciences

how common is a deferral/admit at cornell? i heard it was like 40% but higher in the state-funded schools like Ag/life science, ILR, and human ec.

dayaam i got deferred from CALS also for bioeng
