<p>Deferred simply means "We can't decide on you yet, but we think it's rude to not let you know anything, so we're telling you that we can't decide on you yet."</p>
<p>Now it's true that some of the people who get defer letters will never ultimately be admitted. But some will be admitted, or at least they have in prior years.</p>
<p>Someone told me that because they admitted too many kids early on last year, they were going crazy with deferrals this year so they wouldn't be caught in a bad situation.</p>
<p>i've heard more stories about people being accepted/waitlisted after deferrals than about them being flat out rejected... that's a good sign.</p>
