i was deferred, what can i do to maximize my chances of getting in??

Depends on your stats...If you post them, we can give you some ideas.......

pen and pencil:
did you find out online or in the mail

I was also deferred today via mail

Stats for me are:

Act-31(with a 35 math)

GPA- 3.4 at top 10 private school in nation(hard schedule)

Great EC's
Excellant Rec's
Michigan is also my number 1

Also i applied on the 20th, with all the stuff in by the 26th. ANd by 26th, i mean of September.

wahsu, i got a letter.

as for my stats
3.6 gpa
1970 sats
630 math
680 critical reading
660 writing
good teacher recs
3 APs my senior year, have previously taken 2 APs

eagle scout
have won multiple service awards
sit on ymca board of directors as high school rep
varsity track
deca
i've been on service trips all over

white, male, out of state

i just found out someone i know is a mich grad, should i have him write me a letter now? or is it too late?

Pen&pencil: A couple of ideas:

1) if your senior grades are good, send them in
2) definitely send a supplemental essay talking about how good a fit UMich is for you and that it is your #1 choice
3) try the ACT, especially to raise your math score
4)have the person you know write a letter

But most importantly, move on...Your stats and EC's are great; you will probably get into a school that is a better fit than one that is just concerned with numbers!!! Good Luck! (p.s. there are kids in our school who got deferred/waitlisted from UMich that are at Cornell, Northwestern, etc. this year!!!)....

hey pen&pencil, ive been through this with each of my kids. one thing to do is send in a chair to show the school that "hey, ill bring my own f***ing chair if it means going to your school"
